Need some good news? Democrat Monica Kurth won her Iowa House Race.

It's the first Democratic victory of 2017. Martin O'Malley has been spending weekends in Iowa helping build the base.

Kurth defeated Republican candidate Mike Gonzales 72% to 27% in the west Davenport district. She received 2081 votes to Gonzales’ 784 votes. There were nine write-in votes.

from him: from Martin O'Malley:

'Yesterday, now-Representative Monica Kurth won her special election to the Iowa State House seat. Our Party's first victory in 2017. I was glad to campaign with Monica in Davenport on Saturday.

I need your help so that together we can continue to rebuild our party at the local and state and local level up.

Donate $25 or whatever you can so that we can keep electing Democrats like Monica Kurth to resist Trump.
Onwards,'

I'm surprised to see positives for MO'M from fb friends, former Clarkies, who supported hrc. I kept my mouth shut on that matter, and they're coming around! Imagine that!

This was a special election. The turnout was expected to be lower. The margin was also larger than expected as well
It was an expected Dem win and it was

But, the district looks heavily blue. We need to put in same or more effort into swing or lean republican districts.

I don't know how many voters are in each state house district, but look at that: The seat was decided by a grand total of fewer than 3,000 voters. Get. Out. The. Vote. The more voters, the more better for the majority party, which is the Democrats.

until such time as democrats have a supermajority. Then, once the ass-backward republican agenda is silenced, we can get our party straightened out from the position of strength, rather than from weakness and repair (the damage done, as now, where we let the R win). Doh!
