NYC bodegas to shut down to protest Trump immigration ban

02/01/17 04:47 PM EST

Bodega owners across New York City plan to shut down their businesses on Thursday to protest President Trump's executive order on immigration.

"This shutdown of grocery stores and bodegas will be a public show of the vital role these grocers and their families play in New York’s economic and social fabric," the organizers of the event wrote on their Facebook page.

According to BuzzFeed News, the bodega business community in New York City is mainly dominated by Yemeni Americans, many of whom are upset by the president's ban on immigrants from seven Muslim-majority countries. Yemen is one of the countries affected by the ban.

The Thursday strike is set to take place from noon until 8 p.m., with over 1,000 stores slated to participate in the protest.

"During this period, grocery store owners will spend time with their families and loved ones to support each other; many of these families have been directly affected by the Ban," the organizers wrote.

Trump's executive order has sparked a flurry of criticism from immigrant minority groups around the country.

Trump's administration, however, maintains that the temporary ban is necessary for giving officials time to construct a proper immigrant vetting process.

So I'm there at least once or twice a day.

They all HATE Drumpf. With good reason.
