Iran Shrugs Off Inexperienced President
February 2, 2017
President Trump and Iran traded sharp statements Thursday, with Trump amplifying warnings over Tehrans missile tests and a top adviser to Irans leader saying it was not the first time an inexperienced person has threatened his country, the Washington Post reports.
New York Times: The hostile statements have raised tensions between Iran and the United States to their highest levels since the signing of the nuclear deal in 2015. Some analysts said they worried that the harsh words could further escalate hostilities, and even precipitate a military confrontation, if Iran tests America with another missile launch.

(3,040 posts)They are a large and modern military force. The US will eventually win do to the size of our military, but it will be a bloody war that will make Iraq look like a playground rock fight. I don't think these idiots realize that Iran is about 95% Shia and plays a large part in fighting ISIS and the other Sunni Muslim terrorist organization.
But, to realize the above, it would take nuance and intelligence - - none of which Trump and his administration has at all.

(16,858 posts)This was during my "Officer Development School" training in Newport in 2008, but I vividly remember discussing the fact that the Iranians had the potential to cripple our fleet, this was in discussions regarding control of the Strait of Hormuz, but it's applicable in this scenario. Essentially, the Iranians have developed a fleet of small boats with the capability of carrying torpedoes. These boats are the size of bass boats and in every scenario the Us Navy created, our fleet defense wasn't sufficient to take out all of the boats and each time an aircraft carrier was fatally struck by torpedos. Think a swarm of bees going against a large target. You might be able to take out most of the bees but some of them will sting you. I don't think the American public is prepared for the thought of seeing one of our fleet carriers being severely crippled at best and at worst sunk. I'm sure Trumplethinskin hasn't even considered that scenario though.
