Listening to a friend recall the life of one of the Montreal shooting victims got to me, fuck racism
Listening on the radio. I believe the victim (one of 6 in the white supremacist inspired mosque shooting) was an immigrant from Syria (I could be wrong about the country but that's not the point). He was a skilled pharmacist back home but couldn't use his skills here so he built his life up from catch. Started as a grocery clerk I believe, at the time of his death he had worked his way up to being a supervisor and had plans for much more. He left behind a beloved son and wife. His friend mentioned just how fantastic a father he was and how impossible that will be to replace in the life of his son despite community support. Until that point both him and his friend had seen Canada as a loving welcoming country they embraced. But now his friend was looking to possibly move in the state of shock he finds himself in.
The shooter was a fan of Trump of course. Trump and Bannon and the rest of the racist pigs inspire these wastes of human skin. The normalization of the racism of the Trump presidency is the fucking worst thing of all that is happening IMNSHO. YOU HAVE FUCKING NEO NAZI'S IN POWER!!! They are planning every day to dismantle the government from the inside. They fucking ran on that very platform. They didn't even lie about it, and yes they are doing it. The fact that every news organization on the continent isn't up in arms screaming fascism and white supremacy is terrifyingly disheartening. By this very lack of action, for failing to call it what it is, they daily continue to normalize these fascists.
Not only are most of the immigrants NOT rapists and murderers and drug dealers, as Trump chanted in such cold blooded evil glee about Mexican immigrant, they are overwhelmingly GOOD people. Immigrants are some of the hardest working, friendliest, ironically often most patriotic of all people, if you just give them a chance to set down roots. These are people, not numbers, not "foreigners". They are your mothers, your fathers, your brothers, your sisters, your children. To think anything else is to dehumanize them.
And that is what Trump is successfully doing. Dehumanizing MILLIONS of people. A whole swath of the human race who want nothing but to live a happy life. Yes sure there are problems, certainly there are rotten apples, but people living in glass houses should not be the ones throwing stones. Look to your own culture of violence first.
It's a Short step from this form of dehumanization to liquidation. I'm not saying that's what's going to happen. But Bannon is the pale shaddow of the likes of Gerboles and the like, and that's terrifying.
