anti trump movement. Michael Tomaskey wrote a well thought out piece in the daily beast today that extols the virtue of a good, positive name for any movement that wants to be understood at a glance. He uses the Tea Party name as his prime example of a group whom you can, at a glance, understand all that they are attached to ideologically. Two words conveying an entire relationship.
We need this same, effective, moniker. Several have been occurring in a default manner such as the Resistance. But as he rightly points out, this has a somewhat negative and defensive frame of reference. He offered no suggestions, which considering the thoughtfulness of the article, surprised me. So of course I have an ideal. I'm sure you do too. Here is mine.
The American Spirit, or conversely the Spirit of America. The clarifier Movement can be added at the end of either providing us with A.S.M or S.A.M. Which sort of rolls toward the notion of Uncle Sam.
Anyone with other ideas, thoughts?

(10,899 posts)Yes, we have to resist, but to what end? I think the point of the article is to give people something positive to aim towards. What will we attain for ourselves if we resist?

(6,043 posts)When the theocrats got the words of the pledge changed in the 1950s to "one nation under God, indivisible" it changed the meaning away from a seamless united nation into a theocracy.
The change also suited the "states rights" segregationists who used religion to justify inequality.
Might be time to return to the One Nation Indivisible.
