1. I wonder how much of it is fear and how much is just hatred

of brown people, period.

I mean even the least informed person anywhere in the US or Europe, for that matter, realize they are more likely to be struck by lightning than harmed by terrorists, or at least here in America that is true.

So is it legitimate albeit ignorant of the facts fear?

I think it is an excuse to hate Muslims but mostly just to hate anybody who is not white.

You are more likely to be attacked by a pack of wolves but that's an intellectual observation. I can see how folks , emotionally, can be afraid.

I dislike Trump as much as you do, but...

“I think it’s important to recognize that you can’t have 100 per cent security and also then have 100 per cent privacy." Barack Obama at the Fairmont Hotel, June 7, 2013.

"We're, we're going to have to make some choices," he says.

He finishes that speech by defending the spying program, saying, "In the abstract you can complain about Big Brother and how this is a potential program run amok, but when you actually look at the details then I think we’ve struck the right balance."

11. The goal should be the maximum amount of freedom consistent with order.

Our current administration is tilted way too much to order. I'm sure Germany was a safe place if you weren't a targeted group, until the Allies bombed the hell out of it.

I'm not sure where the quote in the OP came from, but I believe the actual quote refers to "essential Liberty" and "a little temporary Safety".

that popped in my head right after 9/11. It was what scared me the most, not terrorists. Sadly, I was right to be scared.
