At the finish of my daughter's play "Godspell" today...

Last edited Sun Feb 5, 2017, 06:37 PM - Edit history (2)

... the director said "I hope you understand that the message of this play is about love and unity and coming together. It's about loving the other side. I think we really need that message in these times."

Simple, positive and to the point. Nobody except a flaming Trump-supporting hemorrhoid could possible object. Well, if any were in the crowd I'm sure they DID object, at least to themselves. These are people complaining Lada Gaga's Halftime show during the Super Bowl, which is intended to be pro-peace and pro-tolerance, is "leftist hate."

Basically, everything is hate in their world except the venom they spew at people they don't like...

On edit: re-reading the above makes me a bit hypocritical; here I am saying the Trump fans won't love the other and criticizing them for it. Not living by the very message which was sent, in other words.

To clarify, I'm willing to love the other, if that love will be accepted and acknowledged (doesn't even have to be returned). Sadly, however, I feel the message of love is currently beyond many of these people... we have been demonized as leftist Satanists. We have to focus on bringing in those who can be reached while signifying we'll willing to work with anyone who can display fair behavior and equal respect.

They make a very nice living when people are divided, hateful and suspicious of one another.

Just so, when we look at reality, what do we see? A reflection of our very own subjective mind. Haters are so steeped in hatred that they see hatred everywhere they look.

I think it started in the schools.

I ran into a college student I met when I was tabling for Hillary. He is a trump supporter. It so happened that we were both wearing Cubs clothing. He said to me, "We can at least agree on the Cubs." He was polite, and I appreciated it.

My 45-yr-old son and I have split. It took 20 years for the split to happen and I am terribly distraught. However, I could no longer stand the fact that he grew into a thug, a bum, a small-time criminal, a con-man, an abuser of his wife then his girl friends -- an asshole who seemed to take delight in breaking his mother's heart.

At some point, you just have to recognize reality and write them off.

I still have a shadow of hope but I'm no longer losing sleep over him.

13. As you mused, the message of love in Godspell - from the gospel of Matthew- is so far far

beyond 'those people' -ESPECIALLY the ones thumping their chests that they are the real Christians- that they are completely lost to

the teachings in that show.

I was fortunate to be friends with the musicians who played the orginal off Broadway production.
