Joining the resistance against president Donald Trumps unconstitutional Travel ban, Americas biggest tech firms including (GOOGL, Tech30), Apple (AAPL, Tech30), Facebook (FB, Tech30), Google Intel (INTC, Tech30), Microsoft (MSFT, Tech30) Twitter (TWTR, Tech30), Netflix (NFLX, Tech30) and 93 others just filed a court motion Sunday night declaring that Trumps executive order on immigration violates the immigration laws and the Constitution.
The travel ban represents a sudden shift in the rules governing entry into the United States, and is inflicting substantial harm on U.S. companies, says the court document, according to CNN.
The motion was filed with the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, which on Sunday morning denied the U.S. governments emergency request to resume Trumps travel ban. The appeals court has asked for both sides to file legal briefs before it makes a final decision.
The lawsuit was filed by the attorneys general of Washington state and Minnesota. Its the latest move by the tech industry to oppose Trumps controversial order, which has run into hurdles in the U.S. court system.
Tech companies have been at the vanguard of businesses opposing the ban. Their lawsuit emphasizes the important role of immigration in the U.S. economy.
Immigrants make many of the Nations greatest discoveries, and create some of the countrys most innovative and iconic companies, it says, CNN writes.
At the same time, America has long recognized the importance of protecting ourselves against those who would do us harm, it adds. But it has done so while maintaining the fundamental commitment to welcoming immigrants through increased background checks and other controls on people seeking to enter our country.
Uber CEO Travis Kalanick on Thursday dropped out of Trumps business advisory council, citing the ban.
The executive order is hurting many people in communities all across America, Kalanick wrote in a memo to employees. Families are being separated, people are stranded overseas and theres a growing fear the U.S. is no longer a place that welcomes immigrants.

(2,897 posts)I'm not sure how the article construed this as them filing a massive lawsuit, but there is quite a difference between the two.

You might want to replace your article with this one, which accurately describes it:

The amicus brief was filed with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit, which is expected to rule within a few days on an appeal by the administration after a federal judge in Seattle issued late Friday a temporary restraining order putting the entry ban on hold.
