CBS Scott Pelley: It Has Been a Busy Day for Presidential Statements Divorced from Reality

Scott Pelley kicked off tonight’s CBS Evening News with this pretty blunt assessment of the day’s news:

“President Trump told a U.S. military audience that there have been terrorist attacks that no one knows about because the media chooses not to report them. It has been a busy day for presidential statements divorced from reality.”

He also brought up Trump’s tweet that all negative polls are fake and recalled the president’s claim of millions of illegal votes.

Watch above, via CBS.

Pelley indicated it was a special West Coast edition of the news at 5:30 PST, and he still said those exact words. So this wasn't just a one-off, he said it more than once.

The MSM knows that all that comes out of the WH are lies. They may find out that people are more interested in good old fashioned reporting where the MSM relies upon sources and running down leads. They could take a page out of Reuters. Imagine if the WH held a press conference, new brief, whatever and no one showed up. The optics would be powerful.

If I watch a morning show--it is Charlie Rose for a low key intro to the day, without raised voices or nastiness. Yes, some fluff, but a palate cleanser for the hard day to come ala Trump.

Evening, it is Scott Pelley and Public TV. Also, informed, without yelling.

Cable and the net to amp up my liberal vibes, if needed.

Yes, I am OLD. Shrill partisan agitation may truly be detrimental to my health.

I want the facts, as horrid as they are, and I want hosts to call them out, so I don't have to SCREAM them to the TV. ( Seeing this, Chris Mathews?)

We have a Tivo, and first we watch CBS and follow up with PBS Newshour for more in depth coverage/interviews.

When Scott Pelley said that, we both laughed in delight!

But for the Sunday shows, I think Stephanopoulis on ABC is better than the guy on CBS Face the Nation, who guests seem to talk over and around without a challenge. I think it is at least partly a matter of the individual journalist. Still follow Dan Rather online!

Calling it lying is hard because that indicates intent. Kellyanne Conway lies. Sean Spicer lies. Trump is completely divorced from reality and does not seem to know the difference between truth and things he made up in his own head. He needs to get help.

Strangely the right wing has not attacked CBS much. They are screaming mad at NBC and ABC's Brian Ross but CBS seems to not be in their sites much. They will come out in force against Pelley.
