Rosie ODonnell Offers to Help S.N.L. Drive Donald Trump Over the Edge

Why Trump’s old sparring partner is offering to give her Steve Bannon impression a whirl.

When Kristen Stewart and Alec Baldwin each took their shots at Donald Trump last Saturday night, a certain segment of the population waited for the president to explode on Twitter the next morning. “Every Sunday morning is a countdown until Trump tweets about SNL,” comedian Kumail Nanjiani joked. But Trump kept mum on that subject, restricting his messages to the Super Bowl and undermining the U.S. judicial system. In the end, however, it wasn’t Baldwin or Stewart who reportedly got under Trump’s skin: it was Melissa McCarthy’s brilliant and enormously popular take on Sean Spicer. And now Trump’s old sparring partner Rosie O’Donnell is offering to help finish the job.

Press Secretary Spicer is already on record as being casually displeased with McCarthy’s bullish, bombastic impression of him. He told Extra that McCarthy “needs to slow down on the gum chewing; way too many pieces in there” but generously called the show “really funny.” But according to Politico, it wasn’t the gum chewing that displeased Trump. “More than being lampooned as a press secretary who makes up facts,” a source close to Trump told the website, “it was Spicer’s portrayal by a woman that was most problematic in the president’s eyes.” Even worse, the potentially emasculating portrayal is allegedly “not considered helpful for Spicer’s longevity in the grueling, high-profile job in which he has struggled to strike the right balance between representing an administration that considers the media the ‘opposition party,’ and developing a functional relationship with the press.”

Throughout his campaign, Trump had made it clear that he has certain expectations when it comes to gender. He memorably kicked off a feud with former Fox News correspondent Megyn Kelly when she asked him about his attitude toward women during a primary debate. Kelly’s perceived aggression prompted Trump to claim she had “blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever,” and refer to her as a “lightweight” on Twitter.

But the nastiest, gendered feud of Trump’s career (if you don’t count the 2016 election) is the public battle he’s fought with Rosie O’Donnell. Starting in 2006 (when O’Donnell made disparaging remarks about the future president on The View), Trump told People, “Rosie's a loser. A real loser. I look forward to taking lots of money from my nice fat little Rosie.” Like his odd fixation with Kristen Stewart, Trump’s public bullying of O’Donnell went on for surprisingly long period of time—a decade and counting—and he took every occasion to take a shot at her— sometimes bending to include an O’Donnell insult in a completely unrelated conversation.

Rosie is up to the challenge. tRump is a pantywaist, a sissy. Plays the "big man" but shows all his insecurities at 3 a.m. during his endless tweets. What a disgrace to this country he is. A total FRAUD, not intelligent enough for that office. A democratic politician with his traits would have been demolished long ago, by the gop. They are using this clown, until they get their people in office, and the country on the road to destruction. It is what they do best. Go Rosie, take the orange sob down.

I guess Donny was really upset that a woman played his Press Sec.. It wasn't just how brilliant the portrayal was, but the fact that a woman did it that added to the insult.

Having Rosie play his dead father would be freaking hilarious. She/he could be something that only he (and maybe the Grim Reaper) can see and hear. Making racist comments and giving advice about how to abuse Presidential power while praising Putin would be the mainstay of the character.

I seriously doubt if he could deal with it.

Several articles now stated that the thing Donald hated the most about the Spicer skit was that it was insulting that they used a woman to play Spicer.. soooo.. Who better to play the Rump than his most adversarial liberal opponent Rosie.

I have a feeling his blow up would be epic.

It'll have to be President Bannon. I believe that Trump would literally not see a woman playing him-- not see how closely he was being caricatured. But he already dislikes all the President Bannon talk.

I'd been thinking that SNL should "Drunk Uncle" Bannon, but maybe it should be a woman. It would have to be like Melissa McCarthy's portray, though-- spot on. I can't think offhand of anyone who could do that.

And what about Putin? Would Trump's crush on him die off if he were played by a woman?

When he started portraying him I used to have to do a double take. One day my son came over as I was watching a video of SNL he was walking past the tv,and said what the...and the started back tracking to the tv laughing because he does him so well,he couldn't tell the difference.

that SNL should STOP portraying Bannon as the grim reaper. That's what Bannon wants! He has said that he identifies with Dick Cheney, Darth Vader and Satan. The reaper doesn't mean JACK shit to him. Have Bobby Moynihan play Bannon as a sloppy drunken turd, or, as another DUer suggested, Moynihan's drunk uncle character. Brannon thinks far too much of himself. Time to take away his power and show him for what he is... A fucking drunken turd. 💩

something that HE thinks is humiliating and thus embarrasses HIM. And Trump is well known for abhorring anyone who drinks too much. so, you may be on to something MM.

I know he lost a relative or something from alcoholism and there is this story about him going down to his son's college and literally beat him up for some frat party episode.

The point is strong though.. get under his skin to get what we want.
