If you can read this, thank a teacher.

I am in tears. I am a product of K-12 public education. I would like to thank the late Josephine Box, my second grade teacher, who taught me phonics and never insulted my intelligence. I knew about schwa sounds, diacritical marks, and diphthongs in the second grade thanks to Mrs. Box. She taught me how to tell time using a paper plate. She had us do many hands- on and observational science projects, and I learned about cotyledons, hatching of baby chicks from eggs, and much more thanks to her.

Thank you, Josephine Box and the public school system that brought you into my life.

I despise Betsy DeVos and pledge myself to oppose her at every turn and to defeat all who enabled her.

But my mom taught me to read before I started school. My children also learned to read and write before they started school. The teachers made us better at it, though, and lots of other neat tricks like thinking!

My fav was my grade school music teacher. She was in her 60's and was soooooooooooooooo excited by the invention of the synthesizer...let us play that rock and roll music on Thursdays. She brought in Edgar Winter Band albums to play on those days. She rocked before rocking was cool.

YAY Teachers!

Public schools through and through here.

Even more sad - the fact that SHE got through with the uproar over her means no hope at al for the rest with all their conflicts of interest and sheer evil regarding the departments they seek to lead - Treasury, Labor, EPA etc.

The noise and verifiable reasons against her have been unprecedented as far as I can tell from the news.

Money money money - that is what rules to an unreal level. Bad before via CU, lobbyists etc., now completely in the big catbird seat.
