I just sent this letter to Flake

and sent a highly abbreviated version to the letters to the editor section of the Arizona Republic:

You recently posted on the following on Facebook: "Lest there be any doubt about how I'm voting on #BetsyDeVos she had me at "school choice" years ago...." Senator Flake, the confirmation of the Secretary of Education, a position which oversees a department of over 4000 people and is responsible for managing a budget of about $68 billion, is NOT a Hollywood movie.

Your flippant remark has told me and the rest of your constituent the following:

1) You have no intention and have never had any intention of listening to our very real concerns - about ANYTHING. I can understand and respect differences of opinion; however, as a public servant whose job is to reflect his voter's preferences I expect you to at least listen to us when we have concerns and to address those concerns in a respectful way. Had you said "I'm voting for Betsy DeVos because ..." and listed some evidence that she is qualified to hold the post I would still disagree but I would at least feel that you actually had some concern for the residents of Arizona and American children. Clearly that is not the case.
2) Qualifications do not matter to you as long as a nominee or candidate supports your pet position. Furthermore, you refuse to listen to evidence having made up your mind long ago that anyone who supports school choice will get your vote.
3) Quality education simply is not all that important to you. The children of Arizona as well as the children of all of America deserve and have the right to expect to receive a quality education which will prepare them to compete in a global economy. Beyond ignoring DeVos's lack of qualifications, your derisive and dismissive response shows that you just don't care about quality of education - regardless of a parent's school choice.

Disregarding the issue of whether DeVos should or should not be Secretary of Education, you owe the voters of Arizona a public apology for your flippant, unprofessional, and arrogant response to our concerns. It is bad enough that we have someone who thinks being the President is a reality show, we don't need someone who treats important cabinet choices like a Hollywood movie in the Senate.

...and it actually may mean something to him. I can't imagine ol' "maverick" McCain will try for another term. We need to hit Flake, AND HARD. It's time for Arizona to dig itself out of it's red hole and come into the clear BLUE Sunshine!

I have been emailing and calling (extremely hard to get through) both McCain and Flake with the same message and have concluded the same as you: they really don't give a shit a Blue Arizona thinks or has to say. I really, really would love to see someone with cajones step up and run against Flake. What I would really like is a #NeverTrump Republican primary Flake to get the ball rolling.

has already said she's going to primary Flake. Unfortunately she's a teabagger.

...maybe the Teabagger will win the Primary and we can field a Dem that can take on the Teabagger.

Both McCain and Flake have made no secret of their dislike of Donald Trump*, however, both seem to have no problem voting for his cabinet choices.

8. Yeah - it is hard to say

District by district AZ can sometimes get pretty extreme. My district went from Mitchell to Schweikert to Sinema (although Sinema was after the redistricting). I would hope that a serious teabagger would lose the statewide general but it would really depend on the Dem candidate.

McCain is so entrenched he's impossible to dislodge. I was furious at Napolitano for going to Homeland Security as she would have been in a great position to run against him and might have actually won!

...she did have a higher calling, though it did leave our AZ in a world of hurt.

I don't believe McCain will run again. I think this is Maverick's last hurrah. I've stated here -and elsewhere- before, that I do not question McCain's patriotism nor love of our Country or State. I just think he's just too far down the rethuglican ideology path to stop, re-consider and do an about-face. I think McCain is probably the most conflicted R in the Senate today. Clearly he does NOT like tRump*, not appreciate what he is doing to certain governmental institutions. I harbor hopes that Maverick McCain will indeed live up to his name and begin taking actions and casting Senate votes that benefit this Country and this people, AND NOT the rethuglican party and it's abortion of a POTUS.

to run again - look at Strom Thurmond. Also, McCain's "Maverick" status is mostly hype. If you actually look at his voting record, he's voted the party line anywhere from 74 (the lowest) to 95 (the highest - under Bush) percent of the time. http://www.factcheck.org/2008/03/mccain-voting-with-democrats-more-than-gop/

The Republicans are the strongest support for the adage that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. While there is hypocrisy and pro-corporate BS on both sides of the aisle, the Republicans are orders of magnitude worse than the Democrats in terms of voting the interests of the few over the interests of the many and country.

I really hope the Republic publishes it - Flake could give a flying you-know-what about someone who has never voted for him and never will vote for him but public shaming makes a difference.
