Twitter Reacts to Jill Stein's Nonsensical Tweet Blaming Democrats for DeVos Confirmation

For those paying attention to the news today, you would have noticed that President Donald Trump’s Secretary of Education nominee, Betsy DeVos, was confirmed by the Senate today. The final vote was 51-50 as Vice President Mike Pence had to cast a historical tie-breaking vote due to the fact that all 48 Senators in the Democratic Caucus, along with two Republicans, voted against the confirmation.

The vote today followed a 24 hour hold of the Senate floor by Democrats in which they hoped they’d be able to convince at least one more Republican to switch sides and go against DeVos, knowing that a tie would mean Pence would step in.

Well, earlier today, Green Party Presidential candidate Jill Stein took to Twitter to blame DeVos’s successful appointment on…Democrats?!?

As you would imagine, Twitter noticed this and took action:

have much to be ashamed about. First, they gave us George W. Bush, and now they've given us something a million times worse. Fuck the S.S. Jill Stein, and everyone who sails in her.

correct or not. In this instance, we have left of center people who want to believe that ALL Democrats are corporate shills and are willing to believe anything that supports that view. Whether it's true or not.

Another example is Cory Booker is a corporate shill for voting against importing drugs from Canada. Never mind the specifics of the bill. He's a shill beholden to corporate interests.

What really galls me is that EVERYONE on the planet is a corporate shill. We all support corporations every day when we buy smart phones, cars, take uber, pay for internet access, buy food, buy clothes, etc. etc. etc.

over the years. Or some variation of "corporate," "corporatist," "corporatism." Almost invariably directed at Democrats. Almost invariably with no explanation or corroborating evidence or relevance. It's just the typical vacuous shut-down response—kind of a self-styled leftist swear word to be used at random.

It seems to be the universal knee-jerk (non)response to any subject whatsoever for which you have no understanding or serious thoughts. So, when discussing any subject under the sun—racism, climate change, foreign policy—the single-word response is "corporatism." It's a word that stops me from reading any further (if there even is any further), because it's empty, and usually misguided or off-topic. It's like saying "boo."

No. Just no. You have to think more complexly, and study all the facts and literature. And then if your single-word response is still "corporatism," you're dumber than a rock. It's not the answer to everything. And it certainly wasn't the answer to why Betsy DeVos's nomination couldn't be blocked by 100% of the Democrats voting in unison against her.

We are not fooled by these attempts to divert our minds from reality in all its nuanced complexity.
