Ive been in this town for 26 years. I have never seen anything like this, said Eliot Cohen, a senior State Department official under President George W. Bush and a member of his National Security Council. I genuinely do not think this is a mentally healthy president.
There is the matter of Trumps briefing materials, for example. The commander in chief doesnt like to read long memos, a White House aide who asked to remain unnamed told The Huffington Post. So preferably they must be no more than a single page. They must have bullet points but not more than nine per page.
Small things can provide him great joy or generate intense irritation. Trump told The New York Times that hes fascinated with the phone system inside the White House. At the same time, hes registered a complaint about the hand towels aboard Air Force One, the White House aide said, because they are not soft enough.
Hes been particularly obsessed with the performance of his aides on cable television. Past presidents typically didnt make time to watch their press secretarys daily briefings with reporters, but Trump appears to have made it part of his routine. Saturday Night Lives weekly skewering of his administration is similarly on his must-watch list ― with his reaction ranging from unamused to seething.

Back when paper memos were the way of communicating, two page or longer memos were verboten by the corporate culture.
It was such a strong part of the culture, even though I've been gone from there for 25 years, that practice has stayed with me my entire career even though we've all moved to email long ago. Even today I keep my emails to one page, and target 3 paragraphs, 4 if absolutely necessary, but 3 is the optimal according to some communications expert mucky muck, if you want to get your message across.

(18,837 posts)Lots of fast food. Almost no sleep. And practically no exercise, aside from the occasional cart-supported round of golf.
This is a routine that a doctor wouldn't advise for a 20-year-old, yet it's the standard for the routine-loving President Donald Trump, according to Axios' "Trump 101" series, which notes that the 70-year-old is the oldest president to ever enter office.
On the campaign trail, the "three staples" of Trump's diet were Domino's, KFC, and McDonald's (Big Macs on silver platters), an aide told Axios, the new news website. That love for fast food is largely because of its consistency and the idea that fast-food companies maintain a standard of hygiene, according to an interview Trump conducted with Anderson Cooper that was cited in The New York Times.
Still, Axios reports that in the White House, Trump is more likely to favor well-done steaks, crab, and shrimp and the occasional side salad or vegetable to go along with that hunk of red meat (cooked until gray).

(112,620 posts)I played trumpet for the musical "Once Upon A Mattress" which is based upon the same story. Most of the songs were in the keys of B major and F#-major. I had severe brain damage dealing with 5 and 6 sharps in the key signature.

C is my favorite key signature -
TexasTowelie
(112,620 posts)to playing key signatures with flats rather than sharps. I've sightread some pretty difficult pieces in my time that involved changed from 13/8, 11/8 and 7/8 throughout the piece and other pieces with four flats, but I really had to work to learn the pieces within the four days that we went from rehearsal to actually putting on the production.
It's difficult enough to read sheet music in the low lighting of an orchestra pit, but reading the music, remembering the key and watching for the occasional accidentals was cruel and unusual punishment. I didn't really get to enjoy the play either.
To top it off, I volunteered to participate since with the exception of the one music major on scholarship who was a first-year student who played the first trumpet part, the rest of the other trumpet players had conflicts in their schedules. I wasn't on a music scholarship and managed to fit it into my schedule while taking organic chemistry, physics, abstract algebra and calculus III at the same time. Crazy me.

(24,092 posts)...in 8 weeks of summer school. Damn near killed me. That was in the summer of 1973, and even now, I still have the occasional nightmare in which the course is almost over, I have done none of the labs or homework and I am desperately hoping that it is not too late to just drop the class without any sort of penalty.
Flute and piano here. The key of C is my friend. F, G and B flat are OK, too. Even E flat. I would much rather play flats than sharps, but I don't have a real good explanation for that.
When I was stationed in Japan with the Air force nurse corps, I got involved with the base amateur theater group. I did the choreography for Once Upon A Mattress. The group was very active, and our productions were generally quite well attended. We were puzzled when the ticket sales for Mattress were sluggish. Someone finally fgured out that the posters advertising it wee inadvertently misleading. It was described as a fairy tale for adults, and the base population was afraid it was X-rated. A different poster was hastily designed, and ticket sales picked right up.
TexasTowelie
(112,620 posts)sometimes it helps to receive a few opinions before releasing the posters. I imagine that some of the personnel at the base were scared that their spouses or officers ahead of them might take notice by attending the musical.
I also preferred the same keys as you did. Keys with sharps in them are supposed to be oriented for the strings sections for some reason although I don't completely understand why. After nearly 12 years of playing the trumpet I finally took the music theory course for non-music majors during my last semester of college. It was sort of amusing since I could usually finish my homework assignments in 15 to 30 minutes. I was the only student in the class that also had an extensive background in music, math and physics so I was able to understand concepts like dissonance and the cyclic patterns of keys and key signatures better than most of the class. The rest of the class wondered why I was there, but I needed 3 hours of classroom fine arts to go along with at 3 hours of performance fine arts so I saw the class as being the easiest chance to get a good grade.

(24,092 posts)...it drives me crazy. Talk about dissonance. His hums at maybe a quarter tone lower that mine. I typically go into a different bathroom to eacape the disconcerting sound.
What career field did you end up i with that heavy science focus. I am one of those people with atypical interest combinations - biology and language arts (as it is called these days). I am a pediatric nurse practitioner, and I love sophisticated vocabulary and writing

(23,182 posts)He really needs to go, unfortunately, we'd be left with Pence. Unless Pence can be proven to have collaborated with Russia and Drumpf in stealing the election, don't think he will go easily and he's as bad if not worse domestically than Drumpf. Now, he won't turn over the world to Russia or let Turkey kill all the Kurds and would probably not start a war with China. Iran, though, has long been at the top of the conservative hit list and I wouldn't put it past him to start a war there. Behind him is Ryan, and there's little to differentiate him from Pence. So, basically, there is no way out of this mess without taking back one of the chambers of congress. We can and should do everything to resist, boycott stores that carry their brand, boycott the states these asses come from, write letters, sign petitions, march, visit the reps. at their offices, but how much change will this really produce?

(5,815 posts)tRump is obviously unfit for the job. He is completely self absorbed and has the temperment of a badly spoiled 3 year old who demands that he get his way and will stomp his feet and hold his breath until we give in to his demands and commands.
On the other hand, if we manage to send tRump packing, we are stuck with Pence. He is scary and inappropriate to be President for a variety of reasons. So it gives us plenty to consider when making a plan of how to deal with this entire situation.
I think the pushback against tRump should not let up. In fact, if anything, it should increase so that there is NO SAFE PLACE for him to escape protesters. No tweet should go unanswered. No speech given that isn't critiqued and parsed. EVERY.SINGLE.WORD.
I would like to see an investigation that goes as far as it needs to go to find the people involved in the Russian connection to our 2016 election. Name names, pull the scab off. It is scary to think how many may have been involved but for the good of our nation and its people we must know. The sooner the better. Do not be silenced.

I don't necessarily think the US is headed there yet. But what terrifies me is that I never thought in my life I'd see the US on the same path that leads towards that terminus point. And you guys really have started down that path, even if it is early days. I still find myself in a state of shock when I think about what is transpiring in the US. We don't have concentration camps, there aren't mass killings. And I don't think there will be, hopefully. But this IS fascism. I never thought I'd truly see that in the US, as much as I have 1/2 joked about the possibility in the past.
