And this idiotic tweet from Trump is coming a day after the remarks were not only widely reported, but it was also widely reported that a Gorsuch spokesperson had confirmed what he said to Blumenthal.
Editing to add that the Gorsuch spokesperson Trump has just contradicted is Ron Bonjean, a GOP consultant hired by the Trump admin to help Gorsuch through the confirmation process. Bonjean is also a good friend of Sean Spicer's, judging by his Twitter account, where the profile info describes him as "former top spokesman to the Speaker of the House and the Senate Majority Leader."

(43,181 posts)Lest us forget you compared sleeping around in the 60s to serving in Vietnam.
Or impugning the integrity of POWs.
Or talking about how "I always wanted a Purple Heart!" when someone gave him theirs.

(14,531 posts)In a speech he talked about what he did during the war. Later in the speech he said "serving during Vietnam." The video was edited to make it seem he said something he did not. He gave a ton of speeches, throughout the years where he accurately described what he did. Even in the clip where they say he lied about his service, the part where he accurately described what he did a few minutes before was cut out.

(7,908 posts)conflates Senator Blumenthal with the reporter who reported the story as though the two are identical. They may be, but that's now various versions of the story I've read have reported it. IOW, Senator Blumenthal may not actually be "misrepresenting" anything, because he never represented anything to begin with.
It's a fool's errand at this point to try to engage substantively with Trump's tweets. Better, imo to focus on the evil men around him and the evil they intend.

(48,975 posts)what Blumenthal said.
Not sure who Trump thinks will believe him. But some of his supporters, including Laura Ingraham, had made it clear on Twitter that they were unhappy with Gorsuch's remarks.
So it's possible Team Trump (who I agree probably sent this out, given the lack of punctuation/spelling/grammar errors) felt this was a way to appease those critics on the right, as well as a way to attack Blumenthal for all criticisms of Gorsuch.
The alternatives to this balancing act would be Trump disavowing his own nominee and withdrawing the nomination, or Trump somehow getting Gorsuch to say that Blumenthal lied about what he said (and Bonjean pretty much shut off that option).
