Yesterday I received very bad news that a very close friend of mine from high school lost his battle with cancer and died. I didn't get the job I NEED desperately and I was so depressed on top of already being depressed over our nation. I was drinking and having a horrible day just trying to forget everything. When I got a notice of a heart and I just started balling and it released me from my funk. The timing honestly could never have been better. God only knows what the results would have been if I stayed drinking and feeling like crap.
I sincerely thank both heart donors. If you ever wonder if it will change a day or more, I promise you it does.

(944 posts)I can relate and am so sorry that you've lost your friend.
I lost my brother to cancer on Tuesday and have been depressed. My other brother died of cancer in November.
Today I found a heart had been given to me. Whoever gifted me can't possibly know how much it means! Thank you to my donor. I so appreciate the kindness.
Hang in there yeoman6987. Better days must surely lie ahead of us.

(944 posts)But things will improve, I am sure of it.
My brothers were true blue dems all the way and I will miss them.
Hugs for sure, you're right! We must all stick together as dems to fight the menace we face.
I hope you'll have an abundance of new job offers in the very near future!

(9,524 posts)to fall into despair when times are tough, but just a small kindness can be transformative. This is where our power lies. We can't control the bigger picture, but look what a difference those hearts made for you, and then you shared your story and uplifted all of us, and reminded us how important it is to focus on what we can do to uplift others. I find that is the best way for me to get out of my funk when it seems hopeless. So my thanks as well to whoever gave you those hearts, and thank you for sharing your story.

(30,481 posts)This is only because I care. Drinking doesn't suppress emotions. When one states that, there is a bigger problem. Take care. We need you.

I am thankful for the fellow DU'ers who have bestowed hearts on me, too. It put a smile on my face and reminded me that there are nice people left in this world, that we all need and support one another, and that we can do anything if we just stick together!

(9,444 posts)Thank you for sharing your bittersweet story. Somebody brightened my day by giving me a heart and although my day wasn't nearly as bad as yours was, it still wasn't a good day for me and receiving the heart made me feel better. I just hope all the 'heart donors' know they are making a difference. A big THANK YOU to all of the donors!
