It sounds like Chris Long wont be visiting the White House.
In a Thursday Tweet responding to a columnist who wrote an open letter saying he shouldnt go, the Patriots defensive end said he planned on skipping the trip to the White House, and added that it was my call.
dont need an open letter explaining my own words to me, he added.
Long has always been very open when it comes to his stance on social issues. The veteran spoke eloquently this past season about his feelings regarding Colin Kaepernicks protests. Hes also been active through the Waterboys Initiative in helping bring clean water to East African communities in need.
Donta Hightower, Martellus Bennett and Devin McCourty have all indicated that they will not visit the White House.

LEGARRETTE BLOUNT DOESNT FEEL WELCOME AT WHITE HOUSE, WILL NOT ATTEND PATRIOTS CEREMONY

By Ryan Hannable
The list of Patriots not planning on attending the ceremony at the White House with President Trump continues to grow.
The latest player is running back LeGarrette Blount who told Rich Eisen on The Rich Eisen Show Thursday he will not be attending.
I will not be going to the White House. I dont feel welcome in that house. Ill leave it at that, Blount said.
Blount joins Martellus Bennett, Devin McCourty, Chris Long and Donta Hightower as Patriots players who have already said they will not attend the ceremony.
Its worth noting Hightower said his decision isnt related to politics. He didnt attend the 2015 ceremony after Super Bowl XLIX.

That makes 5. James White has been noted as strongly considering skipping as well.

(6,974 posts)There are 'allegedly' are more NE Patriots who want to skip going to the Orange House, but are a worried about the backlash they might receive.

(13,524 posts)do with Easy D? When you've worked as hard as these guys to get where you are, it's got to be unnerving to possibly get traded or fired or...whatever football owners do!...which makes the gents declining to attend that much more awe-inspiring!!

Good for him.
