(58,785 posts)for our system and at the same time disrespect for his actions so far?
Let's face it, heckling, especially at such an important event, would only stiffen support for him and resistance against us. After such a thing he probably literally could shoot someone in the street and be cheered.
Gotta be smarter. We are today's good guys, after all.

It isn't possible to "stiffen" support for Drumpf. Those people don't think.
Being "good" is how we got into this mess.

And, NO. Being good is NOT how we got into this mess. Not being good enough is.

(58,785 posts)and in evil passions, though. Right, Rz? Generally speaking, there are real differences between how conservatives and liberals see the world and react.
One of their biggest and horribly successful strategies (god only knows how many billions have ultimately been spent on it), has been to convince all voters that we're no better than them, with a substrategy whenever they're caught out being to confuse voters about who actually did what.
Our huge advantage that we have to make the most of is that the majority is on our side knowingly--and an even larger majority unknowingly. And for all the happy noise from the right, if the election were re-held today, when there is just a tiny bit less confusion among the confused and even a few people are realizing their mistakes, we'd win.

(29,557 posts)My problem is I simply can't stand the assholes and wish them grievous harm with a big helping of "wish I could do it myself."
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)well for dinner last week, knowing they were conservatives; but before they came I discovered they all were probably more a lot more virulently hostile to Democrats and more bigoted toward everyone, not just liberals, than I'd picked up on before. To say I wished we could call it off was to put it mildly. I'd already bought a pile of short ribs and couldn't even switch to hamburgers.
We got through it pleasantly enough by never mentioning politics, so I'll consider that a tiny outreach and mostly be done with it. There are better fish out there. When they're not sitting at my table I might lament the inevitable return of annual and lifetime limits for any one condition, and preexisting conditions exclusions, but that's about it.
I am sick and tired of everyone who voted for 45, but they're not going away.

Same for all the right's deplorables, despicables, and depraveds. People need to be able to see a clear difference between their choices through the cloud of lies.

(2,897 posts)I see no reason to try and primary Dems that attend a State of the Union address. Do we really have to keep searching for reasons to try and primary sitting Dems while we are in the minority especially over something as silly as a basic function of their job ?

Let the story be about his behavior, not ours.
This isn't about we go high when they go low, this is about showing up to do your job on a day you know it is going to suck. We have and will continue to have ample opportunity to show them to be the greedy, ethically challenged POS's they are.

(31,823 posts)Run for office. Your time would be better spent on the school board blocking local Republicans at every turn - than standing outside of the fire looking for reasons to primary a sitting Democratic federal elected official.
And don't you dare accuse me of giving into Nazi beliefs. Doncha dare!
I'm not a good 'tutsi' either - and this environment is eerily reminiscent of Rwanda circa 1993.

If you are focused on 2020 you are part of the problem - or someone who might not have the best of intentions for Democratic party members.

(1,474 posts)of imagination? Your snide pigeon-hole dismissive attitude toward people based at looking at the little number beside their handle is frankly divisive.
I for one would never hold against somebody that the fact that he or she has so many posts, and what does that may say about their social life, or lack thereof.
Also, I live in an incredibly blue district. Shall I move someplace red in order to "run for office"? Or trying knocking off a fellow Dem?
Also, I gave money and time to HRC. I marched, I phone-banked, I knocked on doors.
Also, as a history instructor I am EVERYDAY trying to make a difference in how young people approach politics.

(15,803 posts)On the one hand, a presidential address demands a certain decorum.
On the other hand, this won't be a State of the Union speech. It will be a blustery trump ego on parade, decorum would be wasted.
For the first time in memory, I do not intend to watch, just as I did not watch his inaugural "speech".
I expect our team will behave, but it will be squirmingly difficult. As for primarying those who attend -- NO.
.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)I actually think our behaving is extremely important. We need to draw, not repel.

(17,175 posts)So far as I know, there's no Constitutional requirement that he give an address before a joint session. All that's required is that he report to Congress once a year, and that can be done in writing.
Or maybe they'll just set up a monitor on the lectern, and he can tweet it to them in 140-character bursts, like a less-articulate Max Headroom.
