Trump cabinet member promises 'religious freedom' executive order within 30 days

By Dawn Ennis · Friday, February 10, 2017

The prayers of Jerry Johnson, the chief executive of the National Religious Broadcasters organization, appear to have been answered by an anonymous member of President Trump’s Cabinet: a long-awaited license to discriminate, in the form of an executive order, will be signed within the month, according to Johnson.

Johnson told the Sharon Herald, the website of a newspaper serving a conservative suburb of Pittsburgh, Penn., that a Cabinet member “signaled that something is going to happen in the next 30 days. There will be something that will balance the religious liberty concerns.” He did not identify his source.

It’s not clear if what’s coming is the same “religious freedom” executive order that was leaked 10 days ago, which would give the religious right a license to discriminate against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans. As LGBTQ Nation reported, that order, titled “Establishing a Government-Wide Initiative to Respect Religious Freedom,” is worse than anything feared by progressives.

The Nation first published the draft text and a separate copy was reviewed by LGBTQ Nation. White House officials confirmed that the draft LGBT executive order was one of about 200 executive orders that were contemplated during the transition — some by outside groups, others by transition officials — and claimed that it was never intended to be signed.

Confuse politics with religion and the deplorables will eat out of your hand. Especially when appealing to and catering to their worst prejudices.

We have freedom from religion in this country, but those people don't recognize that.

And if the decisions are biased and yet still set a precedent, it's worse than not going to court at all. That is the awful situation LGBT people, POC, people with uteruses & immigrants face (based on current pending cases / those wending their way through the process).

'religious freedom' should mean freedom from religion ...

You believe in a diety great but that does not mean you get to act like
a diety and tell me or anybody else how to live and or think.

Do they ever take into consideration the people who have beliefs other than theirs that they need to rely on? Including those that don't believe in any deity at all? What happens when something other than Christians decide they don't want to provide services to them?

and violate them all.

This nation is supposed to be governed, at the end of the day, by "The People." This implies a consensus.

Read the founding documents, that's what they all say.

This bunch of usurping, election-stealing, traitorous fucks have put together a coalition composed of Robber Barons, Theocrats, and White Nationalists, and have exploited the system, colluded with a hostile foreign entity, and just generally used every dirty trick in the book to illegitimately gain power. Now they're trying to ram through their un-American agenda and consolidate their minority-ruled hold on power so that they keep a stranglehold on The People forever.

Well, I hope (and am pretty sure) I'm not the only one who is bound and determined not to let that happen.

I hope the Judiciary branch of the government holds--I hope the un-American fascists don't take over everything. If the fascist junta makes that happen, and/or continues to disregard the rule of law, it's the end of civility.

I hope (and again am pretty sure) that we can stop it before it gets there. This is an absolutely crucial time in our history, and could spell the end of history, given the potential for all-out destruction.

We must do everything we can to resist these fascist scum, and make them and their miscreant supporters understand that, if our nation is to survive, we must respect the basic founding principles of our nation.

"We the People of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

Their idea of religious freedom is cramming one version of religious concocted restrictions on the lives of every American.

They have no tolerance for any beliefs other than their own, and those are designed to control people.
