Fuck them. Stefanik & Trump deserve no such thing. These Fascists need to be called out for what they are. I was redistricted a few cycles back. We were in the old 24th Congressional that was held by "Moderate" puke Sherrod Boehlert for years, then 2 terms of blue dog Dem. Mike Arcuri, then 1 term of now retired moderate Repub. Hannah as pukes go not bad & he was for Hillary last Fall.

Then we were redistricted & I voted for Owens. Now this little Fascist turd "represents" me.
Also for years my congressional office was in Utica, about 30 miles away. Her offices are about 100 miles from me! If they are going to gerrymander the district they need to have at least a monthly office near her constituents here.

I worked on both Scott Murphy's campaigns, but he lost the second one to Chris Gibson. I went to the local event where Bill Owens introduced Aaron Woolf and I was impressed with him, made GOTV calls for him, but now it looks like we're stuck with Stefanik. After decades of Republican representation (John. Sweeney ), we finally managed to elect a Democrat, but it looks like now we're back where we started from...

I'm not only in his district, I pass his house every day, LOL. So I got to see him at campaign headquarters all the time, he'd just stop by. I realize he's not as liberal as would be ideal, took on a lot of Gillibrand's positions, but he's intelligent and sincere and I felt hopeful working for him - but then he lost to Chris Gibson.

I attended their one debate and there were all these red shirted senior citizens who were bused in and were quite disruptive! I called them "senior citizens against health care" since that seemed to be their main issue!

And Scott got booed for supporting the repeal of "don't ask, don't tell" which he equated with Truman's desegregation of the military - and I thought that was perfect! But Gibson is ex-military and he brought all his supporters with him - actually took place in a school I used to attend!

I was pleased when Gillibrand won since for as long as I could remember the Democrats often didn't even bother to field a candidate. But it looks like now we're back where we started from. I just hope the Democrats don't walk away again.

Feb 2017

We heard a lot about him, know he was out and about all over, and I was afraid of that from the beginning. and, of course, so many around here just vote party with little thought at all. Since Trump is so offensive, it's possible that there will be a backlash. I don't know a single soul who voted Trump, but maybe I just know the wrong people...

I know a lot of Bernie supporters who voted for Hillary, but that makes sense since we're not far from Vermont. I saw exactly 2 Trump stickers in my travels - and that shocked me. But then one weekend I drove up to Luzerne. I have a friend who lives up there, in a lovely log cabin, very remote, and I got lost. And that's where I saw the Trump lawn signs! Holy #%#! I couldn't believe it! They were all over! I was lost but I didn't dare stop to ask for directions, waited till I got a cell phone signal so I could call my friend. And these are the rural voters we keep hearing about. New York may be a blue state, but that's because of the more populous downstate. Up here, it would take a really compelling Democratic candidate - with support like Gillibrand initially got from Bill Clinton - to even get their attention.

With Bill Owen but he was a thousand times better than her but then just about any real Dem would be IMO.

Kristen has become an amazing senator and one I truly hope might run for president someday but
unfortunately NY isn't as blue as many think and we'd like it to be.

There's a whole lot of Republicans where we live now (we moved up here from the bluer Capital District) who just blow me away with their lack of any intellectual curiosity and critical thinking skills but I suspect that's partially because FOX has been an easy to get channel up here long before many could get cable/satellite. These are the people that have voted Stefanik and other Republicans for years because they mistakenly believe it's the same Republican party that elected Lincoln. Until they get bit really hard where it hurts by the choices of this new fascist Republican party they'll keep on voting for them. Heck some still will.

Hopefully the Dems put up a really good candidate to run against her, get out the info on her congressional voting history against the best interests of her constituency and we get her seat back.

31. I completely agree!

Feb 2017

For years, John Sweeney ran unopposed. So it was pretty miraculous when Kirsten Gillibrand ran - and actually won! President Clinton came to the Warren County Airport to campaign for her - and I was there! Pretty exciting for this little burg! I really do think he made a big difference.

And I agree she's done a stellar job as senator, has really stepped up to the plate and spoken out, just wish that Scott Murphy had been reelected the second time he ran. I worked on both of his campaigns and i liked him a lot, but I agree that this is a traditionally Republican area so it's always an uphill battle.

When we got redistricted, of course I voted for Bill Owens, though I didn't know him well. But he sure was better than the alternative! Scott Murphy was local for me, while Owens and Aaron Woolf are from up north in Essex County. So much for the redistricting.

And I made GOTV calls for Aaron Woolf, got to see him in person when Bill Owens came to the area to introduce him and I was impressed. But there was a big change from when I did the same thing for Scott Murphy. Back then, there were lots of one-issue voters, and I got a lot of hangups, but this time around, very few even bothered to pick up the phone! With the advent of caller-ID, it makes it nearly impossible - and I agree that most low information voters don't want to be bothered, tend to just vote party - which is not Democratic here in the North Country.

I was born in Albany, mostly grew up in Saratoga and now I'm just north of Glens Falls, just south of Lake George. And it is very discouraging since so many of the local offices are decided in the Republican primary. If it wasn't for the Green Party putting up candidates this time around, there would have been no choice at all...

It is encouraging that more voters are getting frustrated with Stefanik, but will they get out and vote? The Green candidate was pretty compelling, know that he was out and about, so I'm afraid he split the vote, though I don't know if it would have made a difference anyway.

To make a difference, the Democrats have to come up with a strong candidate and support him or her, like they did with Kirsten Gillibrand. But in this area, are they going to bother? It takes money and effort and with the demographics in this area, even a weak candidate like Stefanik (Does anybody even know where she's really from? Even her "hometown" claims they never heard of her!) has a real advantage...

33. I'm amazed at how huge this district is and yet
Mon Feb 13, 2017, 12:41 AM
Feb 2017

it seems like most politicians forget about the north country until election time... if we're even that lucky.

IMO one of the reasons Hillary did so well up here when she ran for the Senate seat is she actually came up and had public meetings and not just during election. I truly think if more Dem candidates came up and hit even a few small towns to listen to and address the concerns of people up here they'd do much better and we'd see more breaks from party line voters. I read an article about the anger in the Midwest and I see a lot of similar anger up here that needs to be addressed and the Dems could put forth an excellent case if they'd just try a bit harder.

I'm still not sure how Stafanik ran in this district. I take it that Guilderland Center (where I just read her family and her are from) was shuffled into it? I'd have thought they'd be covered by Tonko (who I rather liked when he was my assemblyman down there) but I guess not?

I know the area you're from pretty well. I grew up in Schenectady/Scotia, lived in Saratoga area for a while (as well as outside Troy) and of course the Lake George area was one of 'the' areas to spend a fun weekend camping or going to the Great Adventure (I have very fond memories of it as Storytown as a child and then with my DDs so now you know I'm not a Spring chicken.. lol. )

Feb 2017

I was there and it was SRO at the airport - in a traditionally red district. It was exciting to see the president - and of course he charmed the crowd, he's a terrific speaker!

Though Aaron Woolf is from up in Elizabethtown, he did come down here with Bill Owens and I went to that, too. I was quite impressed, he talked about infrastructure and women's issues! He's the Dad of a little girl. He came off to me as intelligent, personable and sincere. So I did make GOTV calls for him, but very few answered the phone. I don't know where else he went, but you're right, this is a huge district now.

And I know that Mike Derrick made local appearances, too. Is it lack of interest? I remember that Stefanik is supposedly from Willsboro, wherever that is. But apparently her "hometown" says they never heard of her...

I mostly grew up in Saratoga, but have been up here for awhile. I'm quite familiar with Storytown, think we're around the same age, LOL. I worked there summers like a lot of kids when I was in school. My first job (and not my favorite) was Cinderella, then I drove the Storytown Train - the purple train that went through the jungle...

Mon Feb 13, 2017, 07:54 AM
Feb 2017

as you mentioned I'm guessing there's a lack of interest but it may also be that they don't hear about the events so they can go.

This area has been ignored so much, in actions especially, that with so many up here there seems to be a mixture of anger and apathy. They also seem to lack in actually knowing about the issues and repeat a lot of RW talking points.

I just looked Stefanik up on Wiki and it does say she currently lives in Willsboro although the way the Wiki write up is it looks like she lived with/near her parents in Guilderland Center when she ran for congress the first time. I actually know where Willsboro is but am a bit surprised that she lives there since it's a very small town and sort of in the middle of no where except that it's near lower Lake Champlain.

If she keeps to herself while there and has a place outside town I'm not really surprised no one knows she lives there. We now live in a small population town and mostly keep to ourselves so aren't really known to most. They may know where we live but not our names unless we've done business with them or know as a friend.

As for Storytown... I'm green with envy over your Cinderella being your first job (mine was McDonald's and I worked the fryer a lot.. yuck!) but a whole lot more so that you got to drive that awesome train. I was an odd child. I wasn't into scary type rides much but I was totally fascinated by Jungle Land and Ghost Town. I was very sad when I heard that Jungle Land was no more.

Group to demonstrate outside Stefanik's office

GLENS FALLS — MoveOn.org, a liberal political advocacy group, announced it will hold a demonstration at 1 p.m. Tuesday outside the Glens Falls district office of U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-Willsboro, "to demand" Stefanik agree to schedule a town hall next week when House members have a district work week.

"Participants want her to show that she is committed to her district and all of its residents," said organizer Heather Vanderwalker, in a press release.
