Magic Johnson Is Latest NBA Legend to Boycott Trump Hotels
When TMZ caught up with Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson a couple of weeks ago, he didn’t shy away from voicing his opinion on President Donald Trump. Beyond saying Trump "can't just be a dictator," Johnson talked about how it’s a scary time in the United States for Muslims, Latinos, African Americans and women. Johnson also said he hopes somebody in Trump's cabinet will get through to him soon because what he's doing right now is "not who we are as people."
While Johnson wasn't sure what a person of his celebrity could do to make a difference, he's since revealed that he will be taking his business elsewhere from this point forward. When asked by TMZ if he's still staying at Trump Hotel, Johnson responded with "not anymore" even though it was his hotel of choice in New York as of this time last year.
It shouldn't come as a big surprise to anyone seeing as Johnson was a supporter of Hillary Clinton leading up to the election. In April of 2015, he tweeted, "I feel @HillaryClinton will be a great President for the American people and she will make sure that everyone has a voice." Johnson even threw a fundraiser for Clinton at his house last year, where he reportedly helped raise more than $1.3 million for her campaign.
