Past Presidents have grown up in some political system-- governors, Congress... They had full access to a trusted party apparatus and knew their way around, or at least had people to guide them.
Trump came in from the outside, and a lot of his most trusted advisors came in with him. The people they all have to deal with, like protocol specialists, policy specialists... people who have skills that live through and between administrations. He and his team seem to have no interest in them and they seem to be bailing. Priebus would logically be the goto guy to get in the loop of day-to-day operations, but he's on the outs now. The only guy who actually has worthwhile connections to make sure everything from dinner menus to how to shake hands with the Japanese PM are dealt with is being pushed out by the infidels at the gate.
Trump himself has absolutely no skills to deal with policy or protocol,or even just basic politeness. He's screwed up just about everything he's tried to run, and now we've given him the keys to the whole place.
With no proper guidance.

(11,243 posts)Sometimes you can destroy people just by sitting on your hands and letting them do it to themselves. Betcha a bunch of lifers are doing just that. Sitting on their hands and chuckling quietly to themselves while the know-it-all vulgarians destroy all their credibility.
Department of Education can't even write a single TWEET that isn't riddled with spelling errors. People who actually run that place must be just gleeful at the incompetence of the privately funded charter school crew.

(17,160 posts)And when he carries on about running the US government like a business, he has no real understanding of what that means either.
Think about it; DFT has never worked for anyone but himself and his father. He never learned anyone else's systems or methods. Never took over a failing business and turned it around (more the opposite). His idea of running a successful business is entirely made up in his own head.

(17,160 posts)Yes, it does seem like forever.
There are so many threads in this huge, lice-ridden tapestry that is the DFT admin. I keep waiting for them to start seriously unravelling and can only hope that in the background there are politicians, journalists, lawyers, judges and activists all tugging on the threads until something gives.
When it begins, I hope for a deluge.
Edit: The deluge might have begun. Flynn resigned as I was typing!
