By Rebecca Savransky - 02/14/17 11:22 AM EST
Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) on Tuesday said there should be an exhaustive investigation into the ties between Russia and the Trump administration.
"I think everybody needs that investigation to happen," Blunt told KTRS radio, CNN reported.
"And the Senate Intelligence Committee, again that I serve on, has been given the principle responsibility to look into this, and I think we should look into it exhaustively so that at the end of this process, nobody wonders whether there was a stone left unturned, and shouldn't reach conclusions before you have the information that you need to have to make those conclusions."
Blunt said the Senate Intelligence Committee should also talk to the president's former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, "very soon," adding that discussion should "answer a lot of questions."
"What did he know? What did he do? And is there any reason to believe that anybody else knew that and didn't take the kind of action they should have taken?" he said.
"For all of us, finding out if there's a problem or not and sooner rather than later is the right thing to do," he added.

(42,641 posts)But who investigates, and what questions are allowed to be asked are the critical issues.
And will the corporate media cover this as an issue, or as an isolated incident?

(10,252 posts)They can see the 2018 and 2020 TVs ads coming already. Better to get on board with an investigation, rather than face the blistering ads that are coming. We need to keep the pressure on hot and heavy.

(9,426 posts)This, plus the town hall meetings are starting to take a toll. Do they always have their heads in the sand when it comes to their own crooks? It is obvious to the entire world that tRump is sub par as a president, and also as a human being. Crass, no intelligence there whatsoever. Why does the gop seem to elect the dimmest bulbs they can find? tRump does not want the job, just the title to boost his businesses. He is glaringly unqualified for this job.

(4,066 posts)They've already set up the narrative that Flynn lied to Pence. This leaves the lingering question of "What did the President know and when did he know it?"
Now, they can tie 45 to Flynn's actions and impeach him. Presto, President Pence - the one they really wanted anyway.
Just my conspiracy theory.

(23 posts)I have a feeling Pence knew as well , I think the KGOP is worried about that coming out in an investigation.

(49,001 posts)Pence covered up for Flynn, and probably tRump too because Flynn probably worked on tRump's go-ahead.

(4,066 posts)That's just the lie they're selling right now - Pence was a victim. That's how they'll play it. "Trump kept poor Pence out of the loop on everything." Yep, that's it - that's the ticket.

(9,426 posts)was investigated on EVERY move, found innocent, so they tried again, then again. They are all involved at various levels so they are afraid of an investigation. We the People should DEMAND that this goes forward. I hope the next election gets these crooks out, and some honest reps. into office. The gop should remember Eric Cantor, he thought he was safe, too.

(260 posts)He can make all the sweet sounding noise he wants but until the chairman Senator Burr (R-NC) agrees it's worthless. Maybe he should direct his comments to the chairman, maybe we should too.

(82,849 posts)Unless the committee chairman is on board, Sen. Blunt can be as out front as his political calculus tells him he needs to be, without risking anything. He gets to look tough without actually being tough.

Damn soon, I would say. Isn't Flynn already using the "I don't remember" dodge? Don't give the SOB any time to foeget anything else.

(37 posts)I am still uncomfortable with any notion that GOP representatives or senators (Blunt, in this instance, Graham and McCain as senate examples) can be trusted to hold the executive branch accountable. And even if they manage to derail Trump, they'll still march in lockstep with the balance of GOP "priorities." They're about as trustworthy as a purring bobcat.

I think that's the plan here.
