Democratic leaders said National Security Adviser Michael Flynn's resignation over his pre-inauguration telephone calls with the Russian ambassador and news reports indicating additional contacts between Trump's camp and Russian intelligence agents have raised a spate of new questions requiring an independent probe.
"Every White House press briefing and early morning tweet seemingly introduces new inconsistencies and contradictions that demand a full accounting," Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said on the Senate floor Wednesday. "Every report that suggests deeper ties between the Trump campaign and the Russian government needs to be followed up on and verified."
Schumer said there should be two investigations: "One, in the legislative branch, where we have an obligation to conduct oversight, and one in the executive branch, which has the responsibility for finding and prosecuting potential criminal liability." The executive branch investigation should be run by the Justice Department, Schumer said, but Attorney General Jeff Sessions should recuse himself because of his deep involvement in the Trump campaign.
Senate Democrats convened an "emergency" meeting of their caucus on Wednesday to discuss their strategy for advancing investigations.

(3,473 posts)During the election, when there were Clinton leaks, RepubliCONs didn't care how the information leaked, they only cared about what was in the leaks.
Now that tRump is President, RepubliCONs only care about who is doing the leaking and they don't care what the information in the leaks tell us.

If the Republicans cannot agree to investigate that, then they are doing nothing but "playing politics".
