Trump: theres tremendous amount of increase in autism

By Michelle Ye Hee Lee
February 16 at 3:00 AM

... Trump asked the principal of a center that serves students with disabilities about the prevalence of autism. The principal, Jane Quenneville, spoke about the increasing number of students with autism at the Kilmer Center, a Fairfax County public school. But Trump then claimed that there was a “tremendous amount of increase” in autism in general — “really a horrible thing to watch.”

This exchange is especially noteworthy, because Trump wants to create a vaccine safety commission that could roll back vaccine laws based on the widely discredited theory that vaccines cause autism. Since as early as 2012, Trump has falsely claimed there is a vaccine-autism link. On the presidential campaign trail, Trump again cited the junk science to explain the reason he believes so many children are diagnosed with autism ...

Rather than desperately look for the cure, so that parents, schools, and most neurotypicals, are not inconvenienced, the autistic people I have talked with really just want to live in a world that welcomes them along their their differences.

Vaccines do not fucking cause autism. Anyone pushing that bullshit should be taken out back and beaten senslessly.

for their child's autism. It is heart wrenching to think that they (the parents themselves) could ultimately be the reason for the diagnosis. This is why it is so tempting for them to jump on the anti-vaccine bandwagon. However, more and more research is pointing to genetic causes. In particular, since the tech boom of the past 30 years, higher functioning people on the autism spectrum have shifted from being social shut-ins to desirable (monetarily) mates. Therefore, many more of the type of people who in the past had remained single, are now having children. Parental age also seems to be a factor, and this has certainly been increasing across the board in the past half century.

I usually yell at antivaxxers, and people who look for "cures". Fuck you, I don't need a cure, this is who I am.

I treat antivaxxers with complete disdain. Dangerous fucking assholes, every last one.
