(7,813 posts)Guardian, Rawstory, opinion pages of WaPo and NYT, Mediate, Rude Pundit, etc. Whenever there's a Latest News headline expressing astonishment or outrage on the DU home page, it seems like it always comes from minor media outlets. fLarger audience outlets need to start using similar blunt language to describe his behavior. Tapper calling the press conference unhinged is too isolated...all coverage (except FOX which is asking too much) needs to be honest like that for it to sink in and reach the larger public discussion.
The temptation by even MSNBC and CNN to have a die-hard trump supporter on for every honest but harsh criticism is misguided. Honest, not merely balanced, commentary has never been needed more (except maybe for before the 2017 election).

(34,845 posts)For them to use 'historically unhinged' in a headline is a big deal.

Can't get much more succinct than that.
And I love the idea on another thread that all the real journalists should show up at the next press conference with ball bearings, a la Captain Queeq in The Caine Mutiny.

(5,810 posts)He is finding out the hard way that there really are limitations to what he can do. Some people have the nerve to say NO to him. He has had embarrassing moments and now a lot of the facade of his campaign is falling away. The behind the scenes maneuvers with Putin are being revealed. And worst of all, the Russians tampered with the election so he is not the legitimate winner. Any of us would crack under that strain. So he is grasping at the only way he knows to pull things back together. He is using what worked for him during the campaign. Attack the media relentlessly. Spew lies. Talk in a stream of consciousness flow of babble. Act rude and crude and show 'em who is boss.
This won't save him, of course. The ones trying to give him a chance now have a huge reason to give up on him. The only ones that will excuse his behavior are his loyal base. Today he acted like the guy they voted for and they were happy to see the muzzle off of tRump.
I felt sick watching this meltdown today, even though I have been predicting his Captain Queeg moment for weeks. I am pretty sure that others on DU felt the same way. We're in uncharted waters and every hour brings a new wave of uncertainty. I hope that we get some signal that this nightmare will be concluded soon. But I am not holding my breath.

(18 posts)Yeah this isn't anything new, we've known this a long long time. What's new is republicans who always so confidently claimed he would be different and change once in the White House, have now had to watch in horror as not only has he not transformed into a new more level headed, "presidential" man, he's actually gotten MORE UNHINGED!
On an unrelated side note, while watching his rambling, crazy town presss conference I learned about his campaign rally this weekend in Florida (yes campaign rally.. for reelection.. not even a month into office). Do we need anymore evidence that this man has never had any interest in governing and has only been in this for his own ego, he needs the screaming crowds, he could care less about healthcare or tax policy. What I hope though is we don't let him get that mass adulation he so desperately needs without seeing the significantly larger mass outrage he causes. So please tell me people in resistance are planning a counter rally or protest at the same location and time as where his campaign event will be.
