This is part of the TV Celebrity "Leader" act he's been playing for the past dozen years or so. The "Rich man as imagined by a long-time Hobo" persona he had to dumb down so that his core focus group of TV watchers can "connect" with.

He's smarter (well, not by much) than that. But he's probably so locked into that public role by now that whenever he gets in front of cameras, he reverts - especially if he's sliding slowly into age related dementia. Which I suspect he's in the process of doing.

It would be pitiable if he hadn't habitually been this narcissistic and venal all of his adult life, and if he wasn't squatting in the highest executive position in this country.

...and the answer, alas, is simple. Because the American people have been subject to a program of stupidification, led by Fox "News", programmed by people like the Koch brothers, and pushed by the GOP. And it's worked out just right for them. I suspect that even stupider presidents are on the way, believe it or not...

and prefaced that statement with, "I think I can say this"

Like he was letting some great state secret he just learned out of the bag.

How is this happening!?! How can the president of the United States be that ignorant?

If you are a soldier currently in harms way, how can you have ANY confidence in the decisions this commander in chief might make?

It's appalling.

It's utterly inappropriate in a POTUS.

And, worse, it's not funny. Although my deplorable relatives think it is.
