(11,589 posts)Yeah that's essentially what the Frum tweet implies. I'd just add a little caution, one way to read Frums tweet, after reading the tweets that came before it, is that he's merely suspecting this is what caused Trumps media are the enemies outburst, hence his "decoded" language. I don't wanna rain on anyone's parade and certainly really would love for this to be true but the tweet when read in context doesn't seem to imply he has any special knowledge about big forthcoming stories at the times, Washington post, CNN or NBC News, he simply is inferring based on Donald's outburst there must be a big story they're working on and Donald had just been asked about it.

His tweet means they called the White House for comment in the stories they are running. Media needs to hit him hard now because he will not allow negative stories about him by next year.

(40,416 posts)I imagine, like Gergen, Dean, Schmidt, and some others, that he is more than aghast at what is going down.
Of course, John Dean crossed the streams many years ago (Ghostbusters metaphor!) and I always thought Gergen was basically a good person. Schmidt gave us Sparkle Moose and likely regrets that, so he has to make amends. Good for him. There is some honor in the GOP. Sadly, not enough.
Frum crossed the streams a few years ago. I remember when Keith Olbermann reported on it on Countdown. Frum was fired from a conservative think tank because of it. (I cannot remember which one; there are so many, all devoid of anything resembling thought.)
Interesting times.

(49,001 posts)Why would tRump suddenly perk up and tweet a tired old theme that he's tweeted many times before?
It could be nothing more than tRump knocked off work early Friday afternoon because he's tired and cranky.
But, ... it could be related to the bizarre super-defensive press conference yesterday that was a non-stop repetitive attack on the media, over and over again. Interspersed with references to the Electoral College and the Rasmussen poll to try to shore up his support. You could see tRump and Bannon hearing of an impending mega story and wanting to get out in front with both those approaches: attack the media and inflate a fantasy popularity.
Careful, remember how Fitzmas raised hopes so high and then let them crash. (Years ago, the possibility Fitzgerald would prosecute Bush and Cheney after an investigation.)
Bernardo de La Paz
(49,001 posts)That may indicate that Frum actually does have some real advance knowledge of some "very damaging story in the pipeline".

(54,377 posts)You're often better off not saying what it is.
In August 2008, I broke Obama's selection of Biden as his VP about 8 hours before it was announced, but could not divulge my source. I got trashed for it more than any other thread I had ever started on DU--until the official announcement was made, whereupon I got ZERO apologies.
I'll wait without judging.
KingCharlemagne
(7,908 posts)DFW
(54,377 posts)First of all, I just had a week from hell, workwise. Monday was München and Augsburg, Tuesday was Stuttgart, Wednesday was Brussels, Thursday was Paris and Friday was IJsselstein (NL). Most posting I have done this week was either from a train somewhere or stealing from the average 4 hours sleep I have been getting. I haven't been in touch with DC at all this week, not even my brother.
Second, now that he is out of office and the story is over 8 years old, I will tell you how I knew of Biden's selection 8 hours before it was made public.
My brother's wife is from Japan, and their second son has particularly strong Asian features. He was (at the time) small for his age, which was 18 in 2008. His mom used to drop him off for swimming practice in a Northern Virginia pool in the morning during the summer. My nephew had interned for Matt Angle's Texas Democrat Lone Star Project, and was very into politics (still is, actually). At the pool, early that morning, he was alone with two women who happened to be from Biden's office. They just assumed the quiet kid with Asian features understood no English, or was too young to grasp what they were talking about--a very foolish assumption to make around Washington, D.C., but there you have it. They knew already of Biden's selection, and were talking openly about it, assuming that my nephew would have no earthly clue what they were talking about. My nephew informed the rest of the family immediately. I was in the States at the time, so I heard within the hour. I wouldn't get Biden's staff in trouble by publicly disclosing where I had heard the information, and nor did I want to compromise my nephew's chances of picking up other cool bits and passing them on to the rest of the family. So, when I posted on DU (and, after the reaction, ONLY on DU), I got roundly trashed for not disclosing my source, and the unlikelihood that my information was solid. Obviously, it couldn't have been more solid, but I couldn't say so at the time.
