dozen employees at the I Dont Care Bar and Grill in Catoosa, Oklahoma lost their jobs Friday when they skipped work to show solidarity for A Day Without Immigrants.
According to a report from KTUL news, all of the employees are Latinos who felt it was important to participate in the protest. None of them anticipated they would be fired, however.
They feel like theyve been unfairly terminated, one friend translated for the employees.
Theyve been working at the bar and grill since it opened almost two years ago.
(Theyre) upset they stood for something they felt was necessary so the community would stand together, and they got terminated for that, the friend told KTUL.
To make matters worse, the owner of the I Dont Care Bar and Grill fired them via text message.
You and your family are fired, the text read. I hope you enjoyed your day off, and you can enjoy many more. Love you.

(4,742 posts)Let me tell you...if you dont know...it is really hard to find good people in the service industry. People who were there for two years are solid bedrock people who make a place purr. I bet they won't survive the loss of the workers. Fuck them.

(13,524 posts)there for two years are solid bedrock people who make a place purr." Yesss! I've slung hash, behind the counter, on the floor, bussed tables, cooked, and washed dishes all over this fine country of ours (back in the day) - restaurant turnover is notoriously high (which is why I could breeze into towns from Key West to Jackson Hole to Austin - etc! - and score a job within a day or two!) - so for a group of twelve employees to hang for TWO YEARS?? - talk about "a fine tuned machine", eh??
These are good peeps, no question - a quick scan of Catoosa reveals more than a few restaurants, and some Hard Rock Cafe thingie is just south of there - I bet (hope) they score gigs quickly, although, most likely not together, sad to say - after two years, these twelve are a family, poor things, and are now broken apart - been there...
Thanks for the jobsjobsjobs DFT - I do hope this joint just falls on its face, because it truly and seriously deserves to do exactly that, aaaaaand fuck 'em.

(70 posts)I hope the local indivisible group and others will proactively start picketing this business immediately. These individuals should be able to get their jobs back by Sunday or this business will be over.
