Theyre embarrassed now. They have to be. If they're capable of embarrassment, that is.

You know them. You know them. You went to high school or college with them. Perhaps they are lifelong friends. You could have dated them 20 years ago, and you still keep in touch with them today.

They voted for Donald Trump. They told you last fall. They did so because they just couldn’t bear to vote for Hillary Clinton. They told you that to vote for Clinton was to vote for political correctness, radical feminism, transgender bathrooms, abortion on demand, racial quotas, inner-city gangbangers on welfare, neutered law enforcement, illegal aliens from Mexico and Guatemala taking all the good jobs, liberal judges, Black Lives Matter, Lena Denham and those Hollywood elitists, secular humanism and every other bogeyman Rush Limbaugh and Fox News told them to fear.

Now, they know–some of them, anyway–that Trump is nothing more than raw sewage flooding the Oval Office. They know–some of them, anyway–that it was a sin to bring on board Steve Bannon and Michael Flynn. They know–some of them, anyway–that Kellyanne Conway isn’t qualified to do anything besides star as Joan Crawford in a remake of Mommie Dearest, and that Sean Spicer–the miniature intellect with a name like an ‘80s male porn star–is so close in terms of behavior to the Melissa McCarthy parody that one can barely tell the difference.

Let’s say they call you or e-mail you today, telling you how embarrassed they are. What would you say to them?

Spent the evening with an ardent Trump supporter and he thinks all the negative news is fake news and that Trump is being unfairly treated. He thinks given more time Trump will be great. Ugh 😒 It dumbfounded me that someone can be so smart and so stupid at the same time. And yes, he watches Faux news.

and reaching out to someone who then snarls back over it, the immediate impulse is to retreat into a defensive anger.

But being met instead with . . . "I get it. A lot of people are working on the best paths forward. What's needed right now are good ideas to counterbalance the damage being done. Do you have anything yet?"

Leave someone a way to 'save face'.

Everywhere that a Trump PROPOSAL or act would work against the local populace, the DNC should have billboards and newspaper ads and tv commercials saying:

"Trump proposal X is going to make your life worse because of Y. Did you know that was what you voted for?"

I have heard people saying, "but they haven't shown us the new health insurance proposal," or "they haven't come up with a tariff proposal for Mexican goods. We'll respond when they actually do it."

This is the Democratic Party's classic mistake and it is more of a problem now than ever. When these proposed acts actually do come down the pike, they are such a stream of astonishing anti-Americanism that it's like whack-a-mole trying to respond. The response should be pre-emptive and targeted to the experiences of each locality. Buying a billboard or a newspaper ad is cheap. We should be everywhere saying, "Do you see what you did? Now you need to fight against it for your OWN survival."

This is a great messaging opportunity and we are blowing it.

One is embrassed. He thought it was just an election act and that Trump would be "Presidential" once in office. My reply to him, " what on earth has he ever done to make you believe he was capable of that?" His reply, "Yeah, I made a mistake.

Two of the others are hard-core old school Republicans and just hope he can implement the pilicies they support before he self-destructs. They never expected much. Both voted Kasich in the primaries.

The last has gone full Nazi and supports everything Trump says. We are no longer friends.
