Could a non white Democratic Ticket ie Kamala Harris-CA/Joaquin or Julian Castro-TX win in 2020?

Harris/Castro ticket could carry all of the Clinton/Kaine states minus ME-2,MN-10,and NH-4 (216ev) plus win FL-29(245ev),MI-16 (261ev),and PA-20(281ev).

As long as Democrats realize they lost PA, WI and MI (and couldn't even compete in OH) because of their pro Free Trade policies.

Like it or not, Trump won there because people voted to try and save their jobs. Not because of all the other garbage like repealing the ACA or banning Muslims. They voted to try and save their jobs. One of the first things he did is kill the TPP as he said he would. The world did not end and the people who voted for him because of that are happy about it. If he uses NAFTA, and other trade agreements, as a way to increase popularity as 2020 draws closer he might carry those states again. That is not something we can chance.

We can't have a nominee who is anything other than against Free Trade. Who has never been anything other than against Free Trade.

If we do that, we can win again. If we don't we can't.

we also can't pretend the xenophobia played no role with a sizeable number of his supporters. The numbers show a large number of Trump supporters who hold very problematic views of non-White, non-Christian people.

in the "Rust Belt" states.

Predictions had Hillary winning PA, WI and MI but she lost them all. I firmly believe that her past support of free trade agreements is what flipped those votes.

I am not trying to win xenophobic Trump voters. Fuck them. They are never going to vote for us and I don't want people like that in our party anyways.

We need to win back the people we used to have. I believe that can be done if we understand why we lost them. Our party's support of TPP, NAFTA and other multi-lateral free trade agreements needs to change.

The votes Clinton lost were working class, union or former union members. She also lost voters who had been enthusiastic for Obama but just not for her. Some voted for Trump because he wasn't status quo, some for Stein or Johnson and some just stayed home or left the president part of their ballots blank.

and choose candidates based on the "content of their character."

Having said that, we should not put a fresh senator on a ticket. As much as we admired Obama, he did make mistakes because he did not know, perhaps did not care, how Washington worked.

No one including the SCOTUS' camp figured on him winning against such a creditable ticket as Clinton/Caine, and yet we are where we are. There are things at work here that go beyond understanding. Is the nation bent on suicide or is this a crisis that will take us to a new and greater vision of America, land of the free, home of the brave. It would be sweet irony if the royal 'Rumpass accidentally by his buffoonery raised the consciences of all Americans to the evils of hate. It's a thin fragile line but the one I'm hanging my hope upon. May it stand.
