Most leaders, from both political parties, at least paid lip service to binding the nation's wounds. Trump pours salt in them. I don't see how this division can end any way other than poorly.
We lasted this long because a scab formed over our differences. Trump and his acolytes have pulled the scab off.
The Founding Fathers were wise men, but far from perfect. Their hypocrisy on slavery attests to that. However they would be appalled that a man of such low character and intellects sits in the White House.

(99,710 posts)Checks and balances and separation of powers are supposed to be a check on the executive. What happens when one party has all the power?
I know... We are supposed to have faith in our independent judiciary. What if it doesn't remain independent? What if Trump ignores it?

It's not going to be three guys with faux-assault rifles in Atlanta that keep Trump in power.

(531 posts)and it must be a strange feeling for the GOP to know that they are on the wrong side of the intelligence agencies right now. wow. Like Bill Maher said last night, party over country...they are in control and are they going to let the US slide into a dictatorship because it suits them, or are they going to try to save the US's skeletal framework...we are having to lean on the morals of some of the most immoral people on earth, no one knows really what is going to transpire.

The FBI.
Really?
The forces don't know how to get this virus back into the test tube. It's going to be up to us. Demonstrations and instilling terror into the hearts of our representatives, or electing new ones to replace those who are riding his coattails. Which will require a lot more effort and stamina from every one of us than I think we realize right now.
