From Wikipedia:

"Felix Sater was a managing director of Bayrock Group LLC, as well as a senior advisor to Donald Trump and The Trump Organization when construction of the Trump SoHo began in 2006.

He played a major role throughout the process of the building's construction, and remained managing director of Bayrock Group when the Trump SoHo project was completed in 2010. The building is a $450 million, 46-story, 39-unit hotel condominium located at 246 Spring Street in SoHo, New York City. The project was a collaboration between The Trump Organization, Bayrock Group LLC and Tamir Sapir."

https://therealdeal.com/miami/2012/07/02/trump-tower-promoter-accused-of-racketeering/

The promoter of the failed Trump International Tower in Fort Lauderdale, Felix Sater, is accused of swindling the project out of millions, while allegedly paying $1.5 million to an associate with ties to the mafia, according to the Miami Herald. When Sater joined the Trump project he had already been charged in a securities scam with New York mob figures worth $40 million. However, Trump investors never knew about Sater’s criminal background because prosecutors successfully hid his records from the public after he became an FBI informant.

The Trump Tower sold for $100 million at auction in March. “Do you honestly think they [Trump investors] are going to invest in a project when you tell them that one of the people happens to have been involved with the mob? That’s insane,” said Joseph Altschul, a lawyer representing the Trump Tower investors. Sater was also charged and imprisoned in the 1990s for allegedly stabbing another broker in the face with the stem of a shattered margarita glass during a bar fight. [Miami Herald]

Trump’s Bayrock dealings shine light on ties to Felix Sater
May 27, 2016

Donald Trump’s involvement in Bayrock Group’s development of the Trump Soho hotel and condo building ties him to Russian-born developer Felix Sater – a former Bayrock executive who was convicted for his role in a $40 million mafia-linked stock fraud scheme, according to a Daily Telegraph investigation.

{...}

But the Telegraph is also reporting that Trump’s signing off on the deal also ties him to Sater, identified as one of the individuals in “control” of Bayrock. Sater joined BayrockTRData LogoTINY around 2002 and was likely “number two” at the company, according to a 2010 deposition.

The Trump camp has previously distanced itself from Sater, with Trump general counsel Alan Garten telling ABC News last year that the Moscow-born businessman had “very little involvement” in projects bearing the Trump name.

“We did do due diligence and we did do background checks on the owners of [Bayrock]. He was not an owner of the company,” Garten told the Telegraph.

Just the type Trump would associate himself with.

From Wikipedia:

"In 1991, Sater got into an argument with a commodities broker at the El Rio Grande restaurant and bar in Midtown. He stabbed the man's cheek and neck with the stem of a margarita glass, breaking his jaw, lacerating his face, and severing nerves.[9][1] Sater was convicted of first degree assault in 1993 and served a year in prison.[2][10] This resulted in Sater being barred from selling securities on the National Association of Securities Dealers (now called the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority).
