Who'da thunk that John McCain would become one of my heroes?

Why??? Because he was the first person, that I heard, anyway, to speak out on national TV to point out that attacking the press is the first step toward dictatorship.

This thought has been swirling in my head for weeks.... how we're sounding more and more like a 3rd world country. I hope we can figure out ways to fight back. But I'm not sure we can... The one thing that gives me hope is that we, unlike these dictatorships, have an alternative identity. We were all taught about the inscription on the statue of liberty, "Give me your tired...."

I long for the days when the GOP was mostly a very misguided but (I thought) well motivated opposing political party. Not a collection of ignorance. I wait and wait for more GOPers to say "enough!!"

If he really believed in the foundations, then he would stop voting for everything his party does to shake or destroy those foundations.

He can flap his lips all he wants and sound rational, provide hope. But until he actually does something to back up his words, it's useless. It will all be lost in the daily Trump shit show.

We only needed one more Senator to block DeVos. When McCain actually does something I'll consider whether he's a hero or not.

Every nominee except OMB (No) and EPA (No Vote because of European meeting). The OMB vote was because of defense spending (Mulvaney resisted additional spending).

No hero.

... legislative agenda. It's not too much of a stretch to see a dictatorship evolve as executive employees are fired for lack of loyalty to Trump, as faith in our press erodes under his constant onslaught.

McCain refusing to rubber-stamp Trump's administration is just one of many ways by which we would be able to protect those things.
