A Trump Rebellion Is Reported to be Brewing Among The Intelligence Community
By Sarah Jones on Wed, Feb 22nd, 2017 at 1:17 pm
"Rebellion is brewing in Washington," Schindler warns of the spy war on the Trump administration. Contrary to Trump's claims that this is a partisan war, "Behind closed doors, plenty of American intelligence experts believe that President Trump is the pawn of the Kremlin..."
John Schindler, a former NSA analyst, has become one of my go-to reads for takes on the intelligence communitys stance in regards to President Trump and his Russian connections. From Schindler, we learned before it was confirmed by others that the Intelligence Community (IC) was withholding information from the Trump White House, out of fear that the Kremlin had ears in the Situation Room. This was later confirmed by other sources, just as several of Schindlers other early takes have been.
On Wednesday, Schindler dropped another tasty seed on the Trump Russia trail. Rebellion is brewing in Washington, Schindler warned of the spy war on the Trump administration.
Contrary to Trumps claims that this is a partisan war, no, its partly about his repeated insults to their work but also, Behind closed doors, plenty of American intelligence experts believe that President Trump is the pawn of the Kremlin, wittingly or not
The Russia angle is most troubling to the IC. Behind closed doors, plenty of American intelligence experts believe that President Trump is the pawn of the Kremlin, wittingly or not, and assess that its only a matter of time before unseemly Moscow ties are exposed and the White House enters unsurvivable political crisis, Schindler writes.
Rebellion is brewing in Washington. The resignation of the CIAs spokesman, a career intelligence analyst, is a sign of how fragile IC morale has gotten under the new administration.
Schindler seems to be referring to former intelligence analyst and National Security Council spokesman Edward Price, a man who has worked in the Central Intelligence Agency for more than a decade under both George W. Bush and Barack Obama, who quit the agency because of Donald Trump. This troubles people who arent knee-jerk Trump defenders, because a careerist is not a partisan position. It would be a relief if this were a partisan issue, but instead, it is a deeply threatening issue that has already undermined our democracy and made us a laughing stock around the globe.
If President Trump keeps upping the ante in his war on the spies, he can expect more damaging leaks to reach the media, Schindler writes menacingly. Leaks happen in every administration, and Nixons ignominious fall ought to serve as a cautionary tale to any president who thinks he can find the right plumbers to fix the leaky faucet.

(9,033 posts)The IC is leaking like a sieve--with and without disclaimers--and now (with deniability) threatening. One would almost think that the truth is less important than taking Agent Orange down.

(9,033 posts)The Steele dossier for example. The IC briefed POTUS and PEOTUS despite being unable to confirm or deny any claims. And then of course it all became public.
Ever ask yourself why?

(9,033 posts)And I didn't use the word "untruth"--you did. I said the truth was apparently not as important as taking out Trump and cited the release of unverified information.
Two things:
1. Trump is an unmitigated disaster for us all, and
2. The intelligence community is an undemocratic, unelected force which may or may not be on "our" side ( cough--Comey--cough).

(54 posts)True or not, verifiable or not. And I'm sure they were interested in knowing how he'd react.

I can't imagine anyone taking him down on supposition alone.

(9,033 posts)I do find it a little odd that a few years ago they were in disrepute on this board for "lying us into a war"...and now they're our besties? Because they don't care for the loose cannon that is Trump?
I think they are useful, up to a point...but they get a lot of things wrong (most famously they didn't see the collapse of the USSR coming--which at the time was their primary mission)(oops), they have a certain mindset (essentially paranoid); they are secretive as part of the job description, a big stock in their trade is misdirection (i.e. lying) and as an unelected body I don't want them setting policy.
That not quite the same as saying "I hate the IC, especially the CIA." Is it.

(54 posts)With the Russian mob or whatever, then he's done for. This whole thing blows up. And if it turns out Pence knew anything, it may sink him too. We'll have President Paul Ryan, god help us.

(1,933 posts)you will have Pence to contend with. Pence knew of the Russian link when he became T's running mate so we won't get much change even if we do away with the idiot man. Pence is a ultra conservative religious fool that will push the racism even farther than the idiot has done. It goes on down the line from Pence to Ryan, McConnell. This is why they always have a smirked grin on their mugs. They know! The only chance we have is to keep fighting back.

(32,083 posts)The career employees swore to serve the country and the constitution, not any politicians--including the president. If they see the president acting in a way that goes against protecting the security and safety of the country, they will act accordingly. I hope they are also planning to do the same with Trump's co-conspirators, Pence, McConnell and Ryan.

(32,083 posts)I do think they knew about the whole thing all along, and are doing nothing about it. Which makes them complicit in it.
