Heres how Breitbart peddles fear to paranoid readers so its advertisers can sell doomsday supplies
Breitbart News sent out a sponsored email on Thursday that told its readers that violent leftists are coming to attack their way of life and then urged them to buy a survival food supply as part of their preparedness plan.

(100,108 posts)And if Breitbart sponsored it or not. I'm starting to think the Alt Right is a pyramid scheme with the bullshit that Breitbart and Alex Jones sell on their site. Trump gets elected, they kiss his ass (and his ass loves to be kissed), and they get promoted and get rich. Sounds like the perfect crime.

(100,108 posts)You know they're there to fuck shit up. And someone had to have been paying them to do that - whether it was Breitbart or someone on the Trump campaign. yoiks:

(22,976 posts)All done via COINTELPRO. It's well documented. And what happened once, could easily be repeated by the current train-wreck of an administration.

COINTELPRO The FBI began COINTELPROshort for Counterintelligence Programin 1956 to disrupt the activities of the Communist Party of the United States. In the 1960s, it was expanded to include a number of other domestic groups, such as the Ku Klux Klan, the Socialist Workers Party, and the Black Panther Party. All COINTELPRO operations were ended in 1971. Although limited in scope (about two-tenths of one percent of the FBIs workload over a 15-year period), COINTELPRO was later rightfully criticized by Congress and the American people for abridging first amendment rights and for other reasons.

FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover issued directives governing COINTELPRO, ordering FBI agents to "expose, disrupt, misdirect, discredit, neutralize or otherwise eliminate" the activities of these movements and especially their leaders.

(100,108 posts)And I've seen tons of interviews with these people. One guy who was building a 10 Cloverfield Lane style bunker said "Yeah, I've got my gold, I've got my guns, and I've got my food, I'm ready". On one hand I can see where they're coming from since the doomsday clock was moved closer to midnight - which is thanks to Trump and not to terrorism. But on the other hand, most of them live in extremely rural areas, where they have a far greater chance of being killed by their favorite toys than they do by an actual terror attack. It's insane how ignorant they are.

(182,950 posts)At least food wise. About 60-90 days supply on hand.
My wife is in to it but only actual preparation and having a plan. We live in the burbs so we can only take it too far.
Robin Williams and Walter Mathau made a moving about this in the (?) early 80's. It's been around for a while but it's cheaper to advertise now so it gets more attention. Also, dystopian entertainment abounds these days.

(100,108 posts)Although I think John Goodman's character is a bit on the extreme side in that movie. Although I always wonder what it is with creepy guys like that and 50's songs.

(22,976 posts)I mean, we didn't actually *see* John Goodman's character die. It's how the ending struck me, anyway.
Disappointed that Goodman didn't get an Oscar nomination. He's been doing some of his best work lately.
