A group of voters in France is urging former President Obama to run in the French presidential election this spring. At a time when France is about to vote massively for the extreme right, we can still give a lesson of democracy to the planet by electing a French President, a foreigner, the French website for OBAMA17 reads, ABC News first reported on Thursday.
"[Its] because he has the best resume in the world, the site, which is not connected with Obama, continues.
ABC said OBAMA17 posters have been spotted across Paris, and the groups website has a petition begging Obama to enter the race. The group is jockeying for 1 million signatures, even though Obama is not French and France requires its presidential candidates to be natives.
We started dreaming about this idea two months before the end of Obamas presidency, an OBAMA17 spokesman told ABC. "We dreamed about this possibility to vote for someone we really admire, someone who could lead us to project ourselves in a bright future."
Then, we thought, whether its possible or not, whether or not he is French, we have to do this for real, to give French people hope Vive la Republique, Vive Obama, Vive la France and the U.S.A.

(5,730 posts)Sorry for the French. They will really riot. We haven't had these sorts of protests before, even Vietnam...it wasn't daily. France, they go nuts over garbage strikes.
Most of the western world is going to be protesting. In a way, it unites us.
Spain already is. I hope Merkel hangs on. We need a world leader. The UK sure isn't it. They have really moved to the right. I just came back from there, and it was unbelievable. They are divided, like us, but I've never seen it so unapologetically RW.
It is like in the whole western world, bigotry and RW platforms, and all of the cheating, lying vulgarities that go with it, are cool.
I'm glad the French gave Obama some good strokes. The Repubs are blaming Yemen on Obama, and their stupid Fox nrws followers believe them.Repubs play the blame game, which is always a projection.
I wish he could be their Pres, and then we could follow him too.

(36,745 posts)It is the most useless constitutional amendment, period.
The 18th was the worst, but we had the smarts to finally repeal it.

(43,146 posts)Only popular Presidents who do good would win a third term
In time of war a 3rd term provides stability
I'd be in favor of ditching the 22nd Amendment. Term limits are not needed
if we have a vibrant democracy that educates voters on the issues. Yeah I
know we're failing on that right now.

(20,135 posts)Clinton would have run in 2000 and crushed them. His approval ratings were in the high 60s. He would've won easily and it wouldn't have been close enough to steal.

(36,745 posts)I think he would have been re-elected in 2000 and 2004.
I think he would have stepped down in 2008.

(5,730 posts)either.
Like that's going to keep us from being compromised by a foreign government?*&%;??
Its a stupid Amendment. Over compensation for Roosevelt . The vetting system will scare up all of the stuff, especially on the Dems.
Clearly. Obama would have been re-elected and he was still young. Experienced! He even said something to that effect...once you really get the hang of it, you are done.
Bush would not have been re-elected. But for DT, he would go down as the worst Prez in modern history.

the leadership of our country go, overnight, from Obama to an unstable orangutan wannabe who lost the election by 3 million votes?? (with apologies to real orangs).
Something's clearly wrong with our constitution.

(9,865 posts)...not do a segment once in a while about Trump's birtherism? Talk about fake news.
bucolic_frolic
(43,146 posts)Trump pushed Birtherism for 6 years to see what he could get away with
and it was fake news from the get go. The media lapped it up.

(9,865 posts)The MSM which greased the wheels for Trump is now being hoist on its own petard. And yet, we've always desperately needed a serious journalistic media. Their own failure has come 'round to destroy them.
