Spicer: Feds could step up enforcement against marijuana use in states

By John Wagner and Matt Zapotosky February 23 at 7:08 PM

White House press secretary Sean Spicer said Thursday that he expects states to be subject to “greater enforcement” of federal laws against marijuana use, a move that could undercut the growing number of jurisdictions moving to legalize the drug for recreational purposes.

Spicer, speaking at a White House press briefing, said that President Trump sees “a big difference” between use of marijuana for medical purposes and for recreational purposes.

“The president understands the pain and suffering that many people go through who are facing, especially terminal diseases, and the comfort that some of these drugs, including medical marijuana, can bring to them,” Spicer told reporters. Spicer said that state’s allowance of marijuana for recreational purposes “ is something the Department of Justice, I think, will be further looking into.”

The Department of Justice declined to comment on Spicer’s remarks on Thursday afternoon following the briefing.

Can you imagine how many small businesses would go down, how much agriculture would be tanked, how much research would end? How many taxes would be lost?

He's just trying to destroy the states that oppose him.

from the conjob/bromance of putin and his boy-potus. As things heat up for the clown in chief, these diversions and distractions will escalate to keep his base either shouting for our blood or too fearful as to where the next nuke will drop?? Yeah, I'm fucking calling it. Marijuana? It'll just go underground, again. And as some poster said yesterday...allow the RW fascists to fill up the for-profit prison system that the KKK-in-chiefs, boy-potus, bannon, miller and their AG klanner chief have said they will keep open even after President Obama had tried to phase them out. And guess who the predominant 'guests' of those prisons will be? GOD!!! This country sucks now...but always told my friends, we were but an election away from this type of RULE. Too much racist hate was underground and now in the open and proudly proclaimed. They laughed at me....a Dr. friend of mine told me...begrudgingly "I guess you were right".

Just those dying of cancer or other painful illnesses. My husband (many years ago) had a non-life threatening but very painful growth on his eye. Before he had it surgically removed he often suffered tremendous pain from it. Like something was sticking in his eye...like a stick! One particularly bad night his cousin offered him some pot...he just "happened" to have. He later told me that literally one hit and the pain vanished, almost as if by magic, for several hours.

It aggravates me no end to think of the possibilities for the uses we COULD find for this plant if we invested more in research instead of punishment for its use.

Already in Florida, that approved the use of medical marijuana last year, the release to patients needing it for things like intractable epilepsy appears to be delayed. Is this 2017 or 1717? Leeches anyone?

LEOs. If I were still smoking it, as I was in the early 70's, I'd be quaking in by boots with worry that some FBI or DEA officer was going to break my door down and arrest me. NOT!

Frankly, I didn't worry about it back then, either. What cop force has the time or interest in bothering people who are smoking dope? Frankly, it has never been much of a concern to people who simply smoke a little for fun. I even had a grow room for awhile, and never worried a bit about getting busted.

Oops, I forgot! States' right are only valid when conservatives want to take away people's rights.
