(4,674 posts)It can be read as mockery as we know it's intended, or it can be read by the brain-dead deplorables as an homage to their great and glorious toad. It's at $33 now and I hope a stupid Repug wins it for bigly bucks.

(16,887 posts)....become a supporter - like me and so many others!
Thanks fellow Duer for assuming that and having no friggin idea that my family has been a financial supporter and contributor for decades.
But you don't "donate" or believe anybody who simply because they post a listing on Ebay and says that they will give the money to SPLC or anyone. You want to support a cause? You donate directly, you get involved with that organization and their correspondence and alerts and you know where your money went.

(36,493 posts)this damn flag would be treated like a sack of flour:
Carry on Gridley!
Reuel Colt Gridley (January 23, 1829 - November 24, 1870) was an American storekeeper who gained nationwide attention in 1864, when he repeatedly auctioned a plain sack of flour and raised over $250,000 for the United States Sanitary Commission, which provided aid to wounded American Civil War soldiers.
In 1864, Gridley supported the Democratic candidate for mayor in Austin, Nevada, where he operated a grocery store. He made a bet with a Republican friend that the loser would carry a fifty-pound sack of flour through the town. He performed his punishment with the accompaniment of the town band, and at the end someone offered that the sack should be auctioned off to raise money for the Sanitary Fund, a new organization that aided disabled Civil War veterans. After finally selling for $250, the winning bidder did not take the sack, but donated it back to Gridley to be auctioned off again. It was auctioned repeatedly until over $8,000 was raised. When nearby Virginia City, Nevada heard of the event (and where young newspaper editor Mark Twain was working at the time), they invited Gridley to come there, which he did. He then traveled to California where San Franciscans donated $2800 and Sacramento citizens donated $10000, before heading to St. Louis and the major eastern cities. These bidders added around $170,000 to the Sanitary Commission's fund, and within twelve months Gridley had raised $275,000 with his sack of flour.

(2 posts)I absolutely support the idea of everybody here donating directly to SPLC. If you miss the auction for the flag, please still give them money!!
just a note, for the skeptics who might wonder is all the money going to actually go to the charity.
please take a look at the terms and conditions of eBay's charity auction. If the money doesn't get to the charity they back bill the seller, so there's no incentive to try to cheat:
eBay for Charity Seller Terms & Conditions for Community Selling
By listing an item on eBay with eBay for Charity, you, as a Community Seller, agree:
If your item sells, you will donate to PayPal Giving Fund (eBay for Charity nonprofit partner) for the benefit of the Participating Nonprofit that you selected for that listing, the greater of: (i) the required minimum donation of $1; and (ii) the percentage of the item's final sale price that you designated for that listing. If your item does not sell, no donation is due.
If you have not made your donation by the due date, you authorize PayPal Giving Fund to collect the donation automatically using your donation payment method on file with eBay.
A donation that is not made by the due date, and that cannot be collected automatically by PayPal Giving Fund, will be considered overdue. You will be unable to create new eBay for Charity listings until you have made all overdue donations. Failure to make an overdue donation may result in the suspension of your eBay account.
If automatically collected from you by PayPal Giving Fund, your donation will be collected in the local currency of the Participating Nonprofit.
PayPal Giving Fund will distribute 100% of the donation amount to your chosen Participating Nonprofit in its next scheduled payment to the Participating Nonprofit, which is usually in the month following receipt or automatic collection of your donation. You surrender any rights to interest accruing on the donation amount.
A Participating Nonprofit always has the right to not be associated with a listing. If your designated Participating Nonprofit makes such a request, your eBay for Charity listing will be cancelled and the insertion fee (if applicable) credited back to your account.
Donations though eBay for Charity are processed by PayPal Giving Fund, an IRS registered nonprofit organization (Federal Tax ID: 45-0931286). Because your donation is made to PayPal Giving Fund to be distributed to your selected Participating Nonprofit, 100% of your donation is tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
PayPal Giving Fund has exclusive legal control over each donation. Learn how donations that can't be delivered are treated.
Participating Nonprofit Direct Sellers:
The PayPal Giving Fund Nonprofit User Agreement will apply to you, instead of the above Terms and Conditions, if you:
Are a rightful employee or agent of a Participating Nonprofit and your listing benefits that Participating Nonprofit; and
Properly identify your eBay User ID to PayPal Giving Fund before creating your listings.
PayPal Giving Fund does not collect funds or retain a portion of the donation from Nonprofit Direct Sellers, and no minimum donation applies.
