Doug Applegate (D) came within 1612 votes of winning Issa's seat in Congress. Issa is running scared and has to look even minimally responsive to his constituents.

Trump is unraveling. He's mentally ill. He obviously can't handle the job.
The only question is when they're going to do something about it.

(14,276 posts)He did his damnedest to subvert democracy with his phony non-stop Clinton investigations. He has done nothing to atone or earn trust. I call bullshit.

(7,434 posts)His district can turn blue at the drop of a hat. Issa craps in his pants at random times now. He's got no control over the angry mobs in his district or anything else. All he can do is survive.
Yeah. Don't assume honesty in his words. Watch what he does.

(3,077 posts)It was surprising. I am guarded. I see the corruption. I want to hold on to hope and believe that right will win out but it won't be easy. It will be interesting for him at work that's for sure.

The Democratic Party has launched an unprecedented early effort to unseat GOP representatives in 20 congressional districts across the country in 2018, including Orange Countys Ed Royce and Darrell Issa.
Royce, R-Fullerton, and Issa, R-Vista, and others are being targeted by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee for an early, all-out push by local activists to harness the energy from recent marches, rallies and protests against actions taken by President Donald Trump. Issa also represents parts of south Orange County.
This unprecedented DCCC investment will help capture that energy, engage voters and help make their voices heard, the group said in a news release Thursday.
Full-time, local organizers will be hired by the Democratic Party to work with constituents, the release said.
The vast majority of the targeted members of Congress are from GOP districts that voted for Hillary Clinton over Trump, such as districts represented by Issa and Royce. One other Calfornia congressman on the groups radar is Jeff Denham, R-Turlock, whose district also favored Clinton.

(9,865 posts)...fients. Was reading today how Senator Collins was demanding to see his tax returns---only later to read that she weaseled and didn't quite mean that.
There is no principaled Repug. They only want to pass their agenda--privatize everything, lower taxes on the rich, remove regulations, lower voting rights. The rest is window dressing.
So I don't trust Issa at all to actually mean this. Or the Independent Investigator will be some Heritage Foundation flack that gives a better appearance than Sessions.
Never ever trust the Repugs on questions of ethics.

(11,686 posts)I could have sworn they were talking about investigating Trump and his people and all of a sudden he is talking about investigating just the Russians. He seemed to me to be side stepping the answer that was being sought about yes or no to appointing the proper people to investigate it. Did I miss something?

on edit: I think he's blowing hot air but we'll see. That fact he even let those words cross his lips goes to show how desperate they are all between the heat from their constituents and their dirty ugly secrets on the verge of being exposed.

(8,971 posts)His margins of victory have been diminishing over the past few election cycles. His district also voted for HRC in the past election. Of course he is correct in his statement, but his motivation is surviving politically.
