Bloomberg Cancels White House Correspondents' Dinner Party

The business outlet has co-hosted the event with 'Vanity Fair,' but the Conde Nast magazine backed out earlier this month.

Another major media outlet has decided to scrap a glitzy White House Correspondents' Dinner-themed event in light of the president's war of words against the press.

<snip>

This year, not only are journalists and media types hesitant to appear at the dinner, there's also counterprogramming.

The same evening, TBS host Samantha Bee is planning to hold a "Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner" at the Willard Hotel in the nation's capital, raising funds to support the Committee to Protect Journalists.

Proceeds from the White House Correspondents’ Association annual dinner go toward scholarships and awards that recognize aspiring and accomplished journalists. Auctions and raffles of WHCA DINNER tickets designed to raise money for other organizations or for commercial purposes are against the policy of the WHCA.

Perhaps everyone invited should send a donation along with their rejections.

who put it on or gratify that buffoon's vanity by watching.

Besides, requiring our presidents to perform as stand-up comedians is very unseemly. It degrades the presidency and our nation. I can't regret getting to see President Obama combine dignity with wicked talent, but time for it to end.

That would be more of a slap in the face to him.

After all, it's a fundraiser. Why let the Orange Asshole spoil the night? Let him rant on Twitter.

Is it some group that represents correspondent's, journalists and news organizations? If so - they should in solidarity of all the news organizations that 45Pee is barring, banning and calling fake news - just cancel this dinner.

After all - they're supposed to be the enemy of the American People.

Are they going to let 45Pee, Bannon and the Repug Party get away with that.

I would like to see - on a daily basis - either news organizations as a whole or correspondent's as individuals - drop out from going. Just boycott the whole thing.

Let's face it - Freedom of the Press is at stake here. If these news organizations and correspondent's are principled - they have to take a stand here and make a statement. They can't let 45Pee just walk all over them.

are members. I remember when the AP's Mark Smith was president. During bush/cheney. I used to work with him - well, long-distance anyway, my being based in L.A. But it was kinda cool - "hey! How 'bout that? Someone I know!" And there he is, sitting up there on the dais in a prime seat next to the president, and emcee'ing the whole show!

Its prevailing nickname is "the Nerd Prom."

intrigued and/or bemused the DC journalism community was when big "stars" first started attending, but of course now they're all over the place where they don't really have a place. Something else that should come to an end.
