I drove past a political demonstration today

[Cirque du So-What]

in front of the courthouse in Millersburg, OH - heart of Amish country. Around 50 people held signs ranging from support for the ACA to women's right to choose to investigating Cheeto Benito's Russian connection to welcoming immigrants. A sole individual held up an old Trump-Pence sign and marched up & down in front of the others. It was gratifying to see such a display in an ostensibly 'red' region.

not well enough to know anyone who lives there but it strikes me that they came out in that number today! Hooray for the good guys!

3. It was an unexpected pleasure

When I saw people in front of the courthouse, I was expecting pro-lifers or trumpons on parade. Once I read the first sign, however, I knew that wasn't the case. I slowed down to get a good look and, sure enough, the tRump guy was a solo act.

7. Resistance coming from an unexpected.quarter

In my experience this is unprecedented. While the demonstrators were not Amish, they were working- class caucasian folks who I am unaccustomed to seeing in support of the 'liberal' causes espoused on their signs.

8. Found this on the Millersburg wiki page:

On April 1, 1892, an unidentified black male was lynched in Millersburg by an unnamed and unknown group. Papers reported that he was the only black man in the county and had been "annoying people in various ways". The man was found hanged on the courthouse lawn one morning after several people heard noises during the night

Presumably the same courthouse where the demonstration was held today.

12. We had 2 on the Capitol Square in Madison, WI today

About 100 of us marched outside in the 20 degree weather for an hour. 300 more came for a second event inside the Capitol, also in support of the ACA.

No counter protesters in this liberal town.
