Any chance Ellison-MN seeks the Democratic nomination for US Senate in 2020 assuming Franken decides

to step down to run for President in 2020 against Trump or Ellison decides to run for President in 2020 himself.
Ellison would be a viable candidate for President in the post Obama Era. Progressive Democrat from a battleground state in the Midwest. He serves on the US House Financial Services Committee and also served on the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Judiciary Committee.
Ellison could seek either of the Castro twins-TX as his Vice Presidential runningmate in 2020.
Ellison/Castro ticket could energize the Democratic base and force Trump and the Republican party into double downing in their bigotry.
Ellison/Castro ticket could win all of the Clinton/Kaine states 232 minus ME and NH 226ev and pick up WI,MI,and PA or FL.

2. I could see him running for Senate but not President.

That would assume that either Franken or Klobuchar don't run for re-election, but both are very popular in MN so that's unlikely. Franken is up in 2020. I know there's talk of him running for President, which isn't crazy at all, but I don't see Ellison doing it.

4. Franken is up for re-election in 2020, same time as the Presidential Election, Does MN law allow

Franken to run for President and US Senate at the same time? If Franken wins both Presidential Election and Senatorial elections in 2020, he'd have to resign from the US Senate in 2021. The new Democratic MN Governor would appoint Franken successor. That person will have to run in a 2022 special election. Could Ellison be a viable candidate in a 2022 US Senate Election?

..we have to stop being scared of shit like that. Al is smart enough to counter any and all of that, and it will play nicely against all of Trump's bullshit.

We are in this mess because we've spent too much time worrying about how Republicans and their media enabler are going to define us and not enough time defining ourselves.

After the Trump debacle all bets should be off as to worrying about what is or is not considered acceptable behavior in a presidential candidate.

9. It's too early for all of those assumptions, really.

Al Franken appears to be very happy being a Senator from Minnesota. As far as I've been able to determine, he has no desire to run for President. So that assumption is the first one I'd question.

Frankly, my interest right now is focused on the 2018 election. I'd like us to win big in that one.

And if Ellison is candidate for the senate he will lose. Hillary beat the T by only 1.5% by 44,000 votes, and it took to the the early morning hours to even get these results.

And while Franken is popular in Minnesota, he will not be the candidate. Too divisive.

Colorado governor Hickenlooper, or Washington Inslee or, my favorite at this point, Cory Booker have much better chances.

running for President in 2020.
The only Minnesotan that could run for President and have broad-based support is Klobuchar. Pair her with Booker-NJ and that could be a winning Democratic Ticket.
