by Justin Baragona | 12:22 pm, February 26th, 2017
With President Donald Trump continuing his attacks on the New York Times this morning by once again labeling the paper failing, NYT executive editor Dean Baquet appeared on CNNs Reliable Sources to discuss the presidents relationship with his publication, the press in general and how Trump has actually been a boon for the Gray Lady.
After host Brian Stelter noted that Trump has tried to get the nickname to stick by using the term failing 53 times on Twitter to describe the Times, he asked Baquet what the facts were.
Were not failing at all, the editor responded. Our digital subscriptions are going through the roof. Even print subscriptions are up. Were a profitable company.
He then added that this was a an effort by this administration to minimize the press. Baquet further explained that the presidents tweets are also designed to minimize other institutions that are there to hold him accountable. I think thats dangerous, he said.
Following a short discussion over whether Trump is displaying authoritarian tendencies, Baquest was then asked if Trumps tweets actually help his papers subscriptions.

(7,768 posts)Yup, and I'm one of them. I received an e-mail from the NY Times with a special offer, so I jumped on it.
I then sent the offer to two of my friends and they wrote back that they, too, had just signed up for a digital subscription.
Keep it up BLOTUS, you're making them wildly successful and thriving. I love it!
(and btw you ignorant asshole, calling the NY Times 'failing' is about as fucking stupid as calling
Meryl Streep 'over-rated'.)
