The BBC does have their peculiar biases, mostly concerning British high finance, but it's not nearly so wretched as NPR's groveling before their corporate and foundation sponsors.
Deutsche Welle, the German international broadcaster, is pretty good too.

(10,303 posts)When Shortwave (or mediumwave aka AM) was the way to listen to World Service, and there was a lot more variety.
If you want a blast from the past.... https://audioboom.com/posts/686744-bbc-world-service-1980 - not complete programmes I'm afraid but certainly a nice bit of nostalgia.
I didn't have much exposure to the World Service - as I was fully indoctrinated by the domestic services.
Did a little search and found this gem: a BBC One programme uploaded to YouTube about the history of the World Service:
#1 Worldwide in the 1980s, still #1 in 2017.

So far the USA isn't on the censorship list. The UK has censored the BBC in wartime, mainly WW2... but a bit in the Falkland Islands / Malvinas conflict with Argentina but this was internal direct censorship. Usually it's the BBC itself that is accused of censorship, mainly because for years it was the only radio broadcaster.
