General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThis is a big deal so let's celebrate. It's working. Bigly.
From my local Indivisible group:
In case you havent heard, we have our first Sister District victory in hand. Stephanie Hansen won the Delaware State Senate race on Saturday. And not only did she winshe crushed it.
This was expected to be a very close racethe Democrat who won in 2014 won by only 267 votes, less than 2 percent. But our efforts helped to hand the Republicans a massive defeat: Stephanie won by 2,187 votes, or 17 percent. Turnout was off the charts, especially for an off-cycle election. Democrats will maintain control of the state Senate, and will hold on to one of our only 6 Democratic trifectas (where one party holds control over the governorship and both legislative chambers). What does this all mean?
IT'S WORKING.
Stephanies win is more than a single victory. This is evidence that when we mobilize for down-ballot candidates, we can have a huge impact. This is how were going to take our country back, one election at a time.
Were so proud of our Sister District community. We chipped in online and in real life, holding fundraisers across the country. Together with Flippable, we raised $145,000 in small donations in the most expensive special election in Delaware history. In Delaware, we connected with Womens March Huddles to get the word out and to phone-bank with our neighbors. We woke up early and drove from as far away as New York to strengthen the ranks of Stephanies 1,000+ volunteers.

(8,000 posts)Sometimes it's a lot of work to get people out to vote. Terrific to hear how everyone worked together to make this happen.

(128,905 posts)There are more races across the country in 2017. We don't need to ignore this year to focus on 2018. We need to keep it up NOW beacause many of the state, county, and local races happen this year (including 2 governor's races)!

Please show up for the primaries on June 13th and the election on November 7th.
Let's make this the first swell of the 2018 wave. Surf's up!

(2,198 posts)Show up at town halls and events and let no alternative fact go unchallenged. No seat for any down ballot position should be unchallenged. Write in your own name if need be.
