President Trump is putting congressional Republicans on notice that their reactions to his speech will be monitored and closely scrutinized. Back in the bad old days of the Soviet Union, Stalin had people stationed around the room during Politburo meetings to see who wasn't clapping enthusiastically enough or who stopped clapping first during the programmed standing ovations. Members were risking their lives by attending, and they were risking their lives if they didn't attend.

Trump seems to have taken this page from the Stalin playbook.
