The problem as I see it is that the Repubs want to cut safety corners and decimate the FDA to reach this goal. This would be good for the pharmaceutical corporations and tragic for us.
With the system we have now wouldn't the opposite be the way to go? An expansion of the FDA regarding safety testing in order to relieve the backlog?

I think the ultimate solution would be eliminating private drug manufacturers. Instead of profit and focus on drugs like Viagra we'd have very well paid scientists as public servants seeking cures for diseases on a priority list established out of need rather than making money.

India and Israel are largest source of meds.
We may make some, but small per cent.
