Trump has set the bar so low that if he acts in a low key way

he is getting the complete benefit of the doubt from the media which will probably translate into popularity. If his handlers keep him under control that is going to allow him to get enough done to permanently damage the nation by destroying much of the good done by the federal government to help people, maintain the environment, or prevent corporate malfeasance. And there is little to be done about it, given the extent of GOP control until at least 2018 and probably 2020.
The best hope (beyond Trump's built in self-destruct mode) is that some compelling opposition figure(s) arise(s) that can bring strong counter narratives to the general public's attention to break the false narratives that are propelling the GOP and Trump.
