Oscars president: accountants who caused best picture mix-up banned

PwC representatives Brian Cullinan and Martha Ruiz will not work awards show again, said Cheryl Boone Isaacs, four days after wrong winner was announced

The president of the film academy says the two accountants responsible for the best-picture flub at Sunday’s Academy awards will never work the Oscars again.

Cheryl Boone Isaacs said Wednesday that Brian Cullinan, the PwC representative responsible for handing over the errant envelope that led to La La Land mistakenly being announced as best picture rather than Moonlight, was distracted backstage. He tweeted (and later deleted) a photo of Emma Stone in the wings with her new Oscar minutes before giving presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway the wrong envelope for best picture.

Cullinan and his colleague, Martha Ruiz, have been permanently removed from all film academy dealings, Boone Isaacs said.

Shit likes this happens when you think the circus is more important than competence.
as in oosing for the cameras and tweetingis more important than doing your effin' job.

It's like restaurants with unreadable menus. You'd think at something with a budget like the Oscars, someone would be able to produce an envelope with legible font.....

I've never seen anything on an Oscar envelope but I assumed that the envelopes were in file folders or something similar.

Cullinan and Ruiz obviously had to fall on their swords for giving the wrong envelope but it's not like everyone else involved was totally blameless. The whole debacle could've easily been avoided had Warren Beatty simply just asked for help when he knew something wasn't quite right with the envelope instead of just handing it over to Faye Dunaway who blurted out La La Land when she saw it in big letters. And part of that responsibility lies with the producers who should've prepped all presenters on what to do in the event of a glitch or "misprint" on the card or something similar that is hindering their ability to declare the award winner.

Of course I don't know why we're even still relying on envelopes for award show results in the year 2017.
